Personally I think the savage is the best all around truck on the market. If you take racing out of spectrum I think its beyond the best. The aftermarket opptions are endless, and the ability to have your savage suit your style is far better than the other trucks on the market. If I was all about racing I would have a revo.. but I am more of a basher than anything, so the savage is perfect.. also I would like to state that HPI is great at keeping their trucks and parts coming... which is my issue with kyosho and the mad force.. All of these oppinions are just that... my oppinion..! :)
My 1.5" extended savage with half-back cage, LST shocks and a list of hop up..

And then the opposite type of truck but still a savage.. This to me is a great way to show this trucks versitility...
My savage racer...

I love my Savage and have bashed over 3 gals through it and only broke 1 lower arm, 1 gas tank, and 1 shock. Sorry I don't have a pic but it looks stock with a proline F-350 body. Here are the mods I have done:
Ported S-25 following RCCA article (thanks Steve Pond!)
GH single stinger pipe
4 gear diffs with 30k oil front and rear
dual disk brakes

uniflow mod
MGT primer bulb
high flow airfilter
shaved C-hubs
replaced rotostart with pullstart
tmaxx wheels and tires (soon to upgrade to dirt bonz)

:D That says it all really i have other monster trucks but i love my savage and also race these most weekends so they are given some stick and abuse.
On the whole the savage is durable strong and will withhold most crap it is thrown at it i know they are a pig to work on but once you get to grips with it and find easy ways round the truck it seems to grow on you and gets easier.
My savage 25SS Mods are as follows;
4 SPIDER DIFF MOD REAR/FRONT
THROTTLE/BRAKE LINKAGE MOD
HEAVY DUTY CUPS ALL ROUND
HEAVY DUTY DOG BONES ALL ROUND
CENTRE SKID PLATE
TITIANIUM TIE RODS GPM FRONT/REAR
FASTRAX FAILSAFE

yes, i race my savage. set the lower arms parallel to the ground, get some bowtie 40's and you'll be set.
abels621
10-08-2005, 09:28 PM
how do you set the arms parallel? there is only one shock position. Do you just pull the preload spacers out?
RS4rally1124
10-08-2005, 09:52 PM
i think they use 1/8 buggy shoiox

yes. that's how you set the height with all RC models. that's what the spacers are for. i also ran the HPI blue shocks. they're softer than the stock black/purple ones, so the truck will sit lower with them as well.
savagepicco26

nope. just regular savage shocks. mine are threaded alluminum ones, but the stocks ones can do this too.

you don't need all that to be able to get the arms parallel and race.
abels621
10-09-2005, 09:35 AM
yeah i knew that i was just wondering if that was enough to lower the arms parallel to the ground.
savagepicco26

try it and see. if not, try different springs. the blue ones are better for racing anyway, and they're not that expensive for a full set.

you don't need all that to be able to get the arms parallel and race.you do if you want to switch between on-road and off-road and also use the same shocks for bashing with this set up the get the ultimate tunability

don't know why you'd want to race a monster truck onroad, but okay. i bought a touring car to run if i want to run onroad.
