I want to build a rock crawler but need some direcion as to where to start. I have 2 servos and will probably make it 4 wheel steering. I have an OK speed control, a fine stock motor for climbing, and several batteries.
I am not too worried about money but would like to keep it fairly cheap. I need som guidance on where to start. I want it to be a custom tube chassis so it will probably be made out of brakeline. I would like links to cheap brakeline that would work, suggested wheels and tires, suggested axles (clod? TLT-1?), diffs, links, shocks... pretty much anything to get me going as I need some help. Thanks guys

http://orcrc.com/ lots and lots of good info
i would not use brake line. isn't brake line thick tubing. it may might make the truck too heavy. you should be able to find tubing at any metal supply shops.
if you go to www.one18th.com and check out the tamiya tlt forum you can see alot of guys converting this truck to a rock crawler.

Clod for performance, TXT-1 for an awsome looking truck and TLT-1 for a really amazing scale look (www.scale4x4rc.us)...

I'm actually looking at buying a new clod and then going from there. By the time I purchased all of the drive portions seperately it would be just as much so why not get it new. The only thing now is that I want to run my super rooster but it fried a while back on a single stock motor... kind of weird. I just need to figure out what novak will charge to repair it.
go to novaks website. they have the refurbished esc's prices listed. you have to send yours in to get the price.

go for a clod, they are so much more versitile. if you want you can lock the diffs, or just pack them with thick lithium grease. you dont need crazy motors either, i use silver cans, magnetic mayhems, or Multiplex Permax 600 7.2V Motors (these are only $8.50/ea.). i run a super rooster esc, 6 - 8cells.
here is one of mine:

That's basically what I'm going for. I am just pissed that the super rooster fried just after the warranty period but was only run about 5 times... all properly hooked up, properly geared, 6 cells, on a stock class motor. I wasnt even pushing it. The thing never even got warm!!

I got pics of what I had here.. http://home.comcast.net/~exsells/clods.html

Thats what I thought... but Novaks site said nothing about repairing but that they replaced the Super Rooster with a refurbished one for $50. If you could find a portion saying otherwise I would love for you to post the link here.
Also to Camaro... Better build up another one so I have someone to crawl with in the future. :D BTW... where did you go? (and any tips on building it?? I will most likely be using a brand new clod powertrain minus the MSC and hopefully a Super Rooster)
