Anyone using this esc? I'm looking for the budgeted way to keep my buddy and his Mini T running. For $9 he can get a RC18 motor, and for $19.99 he can get the Airtronics esc. Is it worth the $30. I do not like to run alone on my track :( .

If you are talking about the ES-01, it won't last at all. It is only rated for the very little motors in 1/24th scale cars. Also, it has no brakes and goes directly into reverse. :(

What about the "Xtra"?

Unfortunately, it has no brake. Also it's an airplane ESC and those can sometimes not work well with car applications.

Man I searched all night for my old speed control that came with my tc3 (lrp runner). I would have mailed it to you for free, even though it would proabably be to big for the mini. Im still looking though. :)

Tell your friend to get a JOB!!! JK :)

Wow, how kind of you. But he really does have a job. ;) He is remodeling his bathroom. So unless he dumps every dime into it, the woman gets mad. "What, another $39 for a motor, thats how much the blinds for the bathroom would have been" I can't imagine...so I help him. Right now he has my Mamba in his truck. (Never buy one of those by the way, not until they come with a sensor.)

elcid4300...I was looking around and while those 2 esc that we've been talking about have no brakes. You made me think, ouch. The stock ESC for an rc18 has no brakes it just goes into reverse. Same with a bunch of the LRP speed controls. I'm not sure what "real time" braking is, but i want the vehicle to slow down when i push the trigger backwards, not mmediately go into reverse. I like Novak products because the trigger has to go back to neutral before the esc will go into reverse. I have a clunky XRS in my rc18 and i'm thinking about marrying it. :p

Free,

I can understand how tough it is sometimes! As for being kind, props to both of you guys :) Very nice of TimisTim to make the effort and also very nice of you to help out your buddy with the Mamba. As for not buying a Mamba, why do you say that? I have one and would never use another motor in a micro again!! Alot of my buddies have em too and they feel the same way. They can be a little tough to set up sometimes but after you get them dialed, WATCH OUT :D . As for the XRS, I agree with you, IMHO it's a great ESC. Just alittle bit bigger that the SPY and because it's designed for 540 motors, it can handle any micro motor you can throw at it.

Elcid...My Mamba just studders and coggs. While it certainly is F$#@ing fast, the cogging issue makes me furious. There are a bunch of people who run them who have never had cogging issues, which makes me wonder about the quality control at Castle. They want me to send my whole set up in so they can see it and dial it in. "WHAT?" I said. I am certainly not willing to give them the vehicle and transmitter. What would I do about the separation anxiety? But, seriously, I haven't gotten around to sending it in since the truck runs and all, and my buddy is a good driver. The sensorless thingy doesn't plague him in the Mini T the way it does with my gas/brake driving style in the rc18. But when he finally does get a motor and speedo for the mini t, I can put the mamba back in and do some more fiddling. Then i can send it in, if in fact I can not make it work. I'm told to put the timing on extreme and hope I have the diff's shimmed properly. :D

It certainly does say something for Castle Creations' customer service that they are willing to dial in your truck for you. I am sure you just need some tweaking to get it right. Give your buddy the XRS and stock motor and get that Mamba back!! :D
