I am new to planes but not new to the RC hobby. I have been in RC cars since 1987. I have never flown before but have flown on the Great Planes simulator.
Here is what I am considering
Plane: GWS Beaver with EPS350C
Radio: Ftutaba 4EKA Micro
Battery 7.2 volt 270 mah pack
Yes there are other All in one kits... But from my experience in cars, it is better to invest in radio.
Does this sound like a good combination for someone who has never flown "in the real world" before?

Do you mean a Futaba 4EXA ?

Yes. Futaba 4EXA My bad.
This should be a better beginner setup than the A10.
I just saw the GWS floats and with the number of small retention ponds in my town. That might give another challenge.
A bush plane that could convert back to tail dragger would be cool!

I hear good things about the GWS Beaver from reading this site as well as others. If it were me I'd lean towards a plane more along the lines of a slow stick. There are less parts to damage when the inevitable crash happens since the fuselage is not built up like the beaver. If you are into building, read my post about the meat tray flyer. It's easy to build and has very good flight characteristics that make it an excellent trainer. Good luck on what ever you decide to do. Its a great hobby.

Go with a GWS Slow Stik, a better trainer plane. The Beaver is a bit more performance orientated, a very good choice for your second plane.
Nothing LESS than 350 or 400 mAh NiMH pack. If you really want to do it right, go with a 1320 mAh 2 cell LiPo. Good for flight duration, much lighter in weight, and will hold the voltage better. A 7.2V 270 mAh pack will go down in a hurry, providing only 5-7 minutes of decent flying. My 2 cents worth.
Oh yes, after you have learned the basics, your Slow Stik can be hopped up in a number of different ways. Also makes a very good aerial photography plane. It is truely a real Park Flyer.
Good Luck

What about the GWS Estarter Park Flyer EP ARF (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHCL2&P=0)?
LiPO is a definate option as I have a charger that can charge LiPO packs. Though more for flight time not for more power.
I might need brushless and a 3 cell lipo with those floats on water! ;)

Not familiar with the plane. The SS will have less wing loading, and you can get to all the electronics easily. Great trainer and first electric plane. IMHO
