Now, can someone tell my why the heck it's being offered as a handheld unit? Man, it needs to be mounted on my radio.

I don't mind the handheld. I can keep it up on the stand with me during practice, my pit person can keep it with them during the heats and mains. Can't remember the last time I looked at my radio during a race. If I don't get an audible warning, it's useless.

I agree about the audible warning. Soon these things will be talking to you, no doubt. Put a in a ear phone and then it will give you a running update, that would be great.

Still, it would be nice to glance down and see what temp the engine is at. That can be done very quickly.

Umm, actually it IS radio-mounted(though it can also be handheld), the bottom of the main unit can mount where your transmitter's original antenna mast is(it takes the mast's place)....

Does anybody know the scoop on this thing's lap timing feature? How does it register when a lap has been completed?

(What I mean is, orion's lap counter had to be mounted at track level, and the car's body had to have the lap sensor pointed out an unpainted area of the car so that the sensor would register the car passing by the counter.)

So... how does this one do it's job?
