View Full Version : noob q -- differences between lipo's and nimh's
hey,
what would be the difference between two packs of batteries, one pack NiMH other pack a lipo? provided they have the same mAH value?

Lipo's are much lighter and generally provide better performance. They MUST be charged on a lipo-capable charger.
yeah my main problem is the chargers - expensive bunch :)
but technically what is the difference? i mean, define better performance in electrical terms :) you need a LVC circuit with the li-po's too, also if you're using 3 cells or more (makes >7.2v) you might need a regulator circuit to protect the servo. am I wrong? anything else you (or i) might need?
another thing, is it possible to use a regulator while powering the esc but make it use the full voltage to turn the motor? like, 7.2v for the esc but it uses 11 volts to power the motor? or am i thinking too much here?
okay, found an inexpensive charger (the TP-425) but now the thing is I don't think I can get the batteries on the plane. My friend was going to bring a PQ 3S 2100 20C pack to me, but I might cancel it because he might have to leave it on the airport. Any experience with planes and lipo transportation? They allow cellphone/camera batteries tho, do you think a Polyquest pack might be a problem?
My plan is to get a small voltage cutoff circuit and use that to power the receiver only, it won't draw much amps, and when the voltage starts to drop it would cut off the receiver, next thing the failsafe would stop the car. That a good plan? There would be one servo connected to the receiver tho, would that create a load problem?
