hi,
i've just joined this community and i need help, i'm new to this hobby and i wanna buy a nitro monster truck i've considered buying a Savage 25 RTR Limited Edition, but i'm not too sure here are my questions:

1. is this a good truck for me?? ( i only have little experience, i have an electric truck right now)
2. is it safe to go in snow with a nitro monster truck?
3. what's a glow igniter for?
4.what kind of fuel do i need?
5. what other things do i have to buy?
6. how much money will i need?
thank you.

ok i am no pro or any thing but i will try and tell you what you are asking
1 think you would be fine but how old are you?
and i dont think i would take my savage in the snow so i would say no
you put it on the spark plug and then pull the the cord to start it
well what ever your hobby shop has there just tell them you want nitro car gas
umm i think glow starter gas batts for the radio and i think thats it
well i saw one new for 700 but i got my savage 3 months old used on ebay for 400 and i think the slipper cluch is when you dont want to go it slips but you give it gas then it stops slipping
it is automatic

well ok i know i could have got the new one for the same price as a new one but it would have been 150 cheaper if the ups ppl did not charge me 150 when it got here

why is it not safe to go in snow?

Out Of Control
11-11-2005, 08:25 PM
because the engine wont get to running temputure and it will cause faster wear on the motor.
and snow is frozen water and we know water and electronics dont mix.

Do you know what break in is?

why is it not safe to go in snow?

It all depends on who ya are. The electronics getting wet is the main concern. However, if you use a little sealant on the battery and reciever boxes it should be fine, as long as you dont get stupid with it. I've soaked my TMaxx with unsealed boxes before with no problem. Only reason I dont make a habit out of it is its too much trouble to clean the whole truck afterwards. In the end, just dont try to float the truck across a lake...

Glow igniter heats the glow plug. Just plug it into the glow plug, start the truck, then take it off. Some use C cell batteries that you replace from time to time, others use a rechargeable cell that you charge with an included charger (the better way to go, IMO).

Fuel, Id use the best brand you can afford or that your local shop carries. Other things good to have would be a fuel bottle to refill the truck with (easier than trying to pour from a gallon jug), after run oil, and of course some basic hand tools for tuning.

Wet electronics can be an expensive adventure. Once they get wet they may turn flaky, be totally ruined, or be fine. Depends on how wet and exactly where the water (melted snow)went or got into. If it was my 1st nitro truck, I wouldn't be taking tehchance until I learned way more about what I was doing.

Slipper clutch is a device usually mounted on the the (it is on the Savage)transmission that allows slippage in the drive train to protect same from sudden shocks - like landing a jump with the power on. With no slipper, you'd prob break driveshaft or something in the trans from the shock of landing with the wheels spinning at or near full rpm contacting ground and instantly getting slowed down - energy has got to go somewhere and its spent in the slipper instead of breaking something.

Gead change is completely automatic based on engine rpm and an adjustment in the trans - there's a socket screw that sets the tension in a spring that lets you adjust how soon or late it shifts.

oh and one other thing if you dont want to get a fuel bottle then just get one of these just put a bit of gas line on it and then you can reach the bottem it is just somthing to save a bit of money it will just take a bit longer

As long as you do what these guy's said you'll have no problems getting your rc's wet. And make sure you dry them off all the way when your finished bashing. I have some snow bashing pics somewhere too, when I find them I will post them. Here's my Savage taking a bath in a creek. And try not to get water or mud in the carb, that would be baaaaaaad ;)

i went to my local hobby store today
they had Savage 25 RTR Limited Edition for $739
Monster GT RTR 4.60 SE for $589
and Savage 25 RTR for $589
and the guy told me i should consider TNX RTR, 4WD Mosnter Truck $504
the prices are in canadian dollars +tax which is 15%
since Savage 25 RTR Limited Edition is so expensive i can afford it but i can afford any of the other ones, which one??
and why is tnx so much cheaper?

LD3Furious
11-13-2005, 10:08 PM
The TNX comes with what is considered a small block engine, .18. All the others come with big blocks, .21 or larger. Im not sure if that is why there is such a large difference in price.

fuzz101
11-15-2005, 12:07 AM
how much slower is a small block engine from a big block?? how many mph??
and how do i make my truck waterproof? :D

kurrz
11-15-2005, 10:21 PM
The TNX with it's small block is actually one of the fastest trucks you've listed. Don't count it out. The MGT is also a great truck. I read in RCCA that the new MGT goes somewhere around 36 and the TNX just over 40.

fuzz i can assume ur in canada and u wnna drive it in the snow .....as far as ive experienced i drive both my savage and my nitro quake in the snow and as long as u bring it inside relatively soon after ur done and dry everything off u should be ok.....i wrap my reciver in a bag and have over sized fuel tubing on the hump pack connection....i got nothing for the servos....havent lost 1 yet..but i have heard of people wrapping them in baloons... ...how do u make that work exactly..i dont know.
TrU
P.S. snow bashing.....the most fun u can have with clothes on. :p

Okay, i narrowed down my options to:
-T-MAXX 2.5 4WD Monster RTR
-TNX RTR, 4WD Mosnter Truck
- Savage 25 RTR
- Monster GT RTR 4.60 SE
the other trucks i listed before are way out of my budget, i want power(specially high acceleration rate) and durability please tell me the best truck that will give me both of these.
oh, and what's the deal with tunder cat?? why do they say it's so powerful?? and why are t-maxx so popular??

by the way, nice tips on the waterproofing TrU InTeGrA, i took my electric truck out for a spin in the snow without any problems, thx ;)

personally....the only trucks that ive had are the 2 i mentioned...but the savage is quite the nice setup as far as trucks go...nice susp....and nice tranny..i cant complain bout much on the savvy.

so i think u should go with the savage 25 RTR..... hopups are almost UNLIMITED for it and its an all around good truck. not too sure bout what ur talking about with the thunder cat ...and the T-MaX is so popular cuz its been around for a little while and its kinda a diff setup that a savage ...i dunno some people love their savvy and some people love their T.max'z ....it all boils down to personal prefference. do u got any freinds who have any ? ...maby try driving theirs..and make ur decision based on that.

I say get the MGT 4.60 SE. I have the original .21 version and it is really durable and good for bashing. It performed good with the .21 so I bet the .28 will have it performing great. Also, if you want high top speed or high torque, you can get different sized clutch bells and spur gears. The clutch bell and spur gear are really easy to change because the engine is mounted sideways. Also, if you think size matters, the MGT is bigger than the Savage, TMAXX and a little bigger than the TNX.

i got it!!!!!!!!!

i got the MGT 4.60 SE from ebay for $518 Canadian dollars with shipping and for $474 USD(with shipping)

i live in toronto
what is LHS??
MGT has all the batteries and recivers in sealed boxes, i think it's prefect for snow since it has such larg engine with high torque but it's a bit slow

it has a .28 engine, right?

how long the 12AA batteries are going to last??
is it wise to buy alkine or should i buy rechargables?

chrisoneal
12-01-2005, 09:51 PM
the ones in ur TX=transmiter will last some time. But the ones in ur RX=receiver will go out often. prolly ur best bet is to get a hump pack it recharchable. And the LHS= local hobby shop.Have fun with it. post some pic snow bashing when u can

guys can some one tell me these:
what kind of oil do i need for the engine? is the engine pre oiled? are the shocks pre oiled? how often should i apply new oil? can i use regular car engine oil? what kind of glow igniter should i buy?
what else am i suppose to do for maintenance?
is 20% fuel fine?
___________
THX

mttruck driver
12-06-2005, 07:40 PM
The shocks come engines are 2 stroke and the oil comes already blended in the nitro. And 20% is a good percentage to run for bashing

fuzz101
12-06-2005, 08:12 PM
how many times is my glow igniter gonna work before i have to recharge it?

TrU InTeGrA
12-21-2005, 02:46 PM
depends on how welll u got the truck tuned and break in will probebly go through like 2 plugs at least. and the actual ignitor will last a while if u buy a good 1... get A D cell ignitor and it will almost NEVER go dead.
No u cant use regular engin oil.....the fuel u use 20% is go9od for break in..will have the oil allready in it for the engin.....to reoil shocks ...whenever they feel sloppy or lose their dampening affects. for maintenence depends on how hard u are on the truck and where u drive it...dirt..sand..mud= DIRTY pavement = clean...and the MGT is laid out simply so cleaning it wont be too difficult.......if u wanna go in the snow protect ur electronics.
