hey all, Ive been away from r/c for about a yr now due to work and other adventures and am looking to finally get back into the swing of things and upgrade the engine in my savage....I dont plan on racing but I want something fast and relativley easy to work on and tune. Any suggestions? I'm limited to about a $250 budget so I will need an engine, header and pipe. within that range. thanks for any help

I've got a Mach .26 on mine ($140 @ Horizon Hobbies) and it is doing well so far. Wheelies and power aplenty and it's still running real rich. The stock header, pipi, clutch and flywheel all fit. If you want to use the Roto start, you'll have to mod the Mach's backplate but it comes with a pull start so the roto start may not matter to you.
Mach also has a new .28 engine out for $154.

You can get the O.S. Max 30VG roto start version for 235-269.99 depending on were you buy it. It somewhat expensive but I think it is worth the money. Or you could get an Ofna Picco .27 for 169.99 and a Vantage pipe system for an extra 65.99.

I've got the 27Picco - it replaced the 4.6SS motor in mine. Was a def improvement and a great motor for the price. I'm running it with the stock pipe that came with the 4.6.

I'm waiting on the OS 30 like everyone else. It should be an awesome motor and strong enough to find any weak spots in the 4.6 drive train.

now see I've heard some things about the sh .28 and I was leaning towards that one but like I said, it's been a while since I've done anything r/c related. is it a good engine? is there anyone out there who has had some experience with this engine? when is this .30 supposed to be coming out?

SH 28 (and STS28) had a lot of prob breaking con rod near the 1 gal mark. The rod end wore egg shaped and then broke. There were lots of posts from people who had them break.

The newer SH 28 Pro is supposed to have fixed this prob with a con rod that has bushing instead of being plain. Haven't read any reports from anyone who actually has one yet though.

The OS 30 is due "mid November" whatever that means.
