View Full Version : LST/LST2 Decision Dilemma

Good day LST veterans or those who know their own stink. I've concluded, through extensive research, that I want to control the beast that is the LST/LST2. As a returning r/c'er, this will be my first nitro. Exciting.

On the market there is the LST and soon to come LST2. "They" say the LST2 has remedied the exsiting problems the LST has.

I'm still intrigued with the LST. This is why. I've found the price to drop about $60. This allows me to purchase the aluminum diffs and RPM gear covers that will eliminate the intial problems associated with the model. This still leaves me cash to purchase all lubes, batteries, charger, spare plugs, spare filters, tools, etc that will take me a little beyond the original asking price. That's the positives for the LST.

The LST2 seems to have taken care of those initial problems along with including a receiver battery pack and charger among other things. They also swaped out the engine. This is were my post begins to have some importance.

Through the research, I found that the Mach .26 in the LST did not make out so good in reagrds to a specific washer and rod of some sort that can cause the engine to blow. This leaves me timid for I have never worked on, tuned or even started a nitro engine. All I need is for this thing to fail which will cause me to get discouraged. This does not mean I am not capable of grasping the concept of a nitro car. It is the fear of after 4 tanks of running, the engine may give up on life. To little of a time to feel comfortable with tuning, etc. Nor would I be happy sending in the engine to get another after purchasing the model.

So here comes the questions. Is it safe now, late November early December to purchase a LST without the mentioned engine problems. Or is wiser to invest more money ($700+, to include the mentioned extra needs like lubes, batteries and so on) and get the LST2. Honestly, I see minimal enhancements to the LST2 for what I want it for. Fun in the dirt around the house and tracks (no racing). However, I see how far those extra $60 will take me if I were to get the LST.

Hi, my name is the need. I am new here. Any conversation that can be established would be great in helping me decide between these two machines. Thanks!

I personnaly love my LST and it seems to me that the LST2 is aimed more at racing than all out bashing like the 1. So if you are to be racing it, then look into the LST2 but if you are going to bash with maybe a race here or there, go for the 1.

Well that is exactly what I did. I bought the LST (1) at a discount and bought the needed parts (aluminum diff cases, rpm arms (maybe not even needed ??) and gear cover, batteries...) with money to spare.

The engine problems have been long fixed as far as I know. My LST serial number is in the 18,000's.

I haven't run it yet because I have plans to not even run the Mach in mine but to transplant a lot more powerful engine into it right off the bat. (Novarossi Rex .28 8 port)

I don't think you'll be disappointed at all in getting the first version. I know I wasn't upset at all when version two came out (a week after I bought my LST) and you can even down the road if you wish, buy version two parts for your existing LST.

Hey Bradad, I have been considering that NR Rex .28. That's the one with the blue head I believe. Where did you get yours and what kind of price was on it?

Hi luvnitro,

I haven't bought one yet and I am looking for the best price as well.
They have a 3 port .28 and an 8 port as well.

Here is the Rex .28 8 port.

hi guys, wondering if the price of the LST 1 will drop because of the realese of
the 2?

I'm sure it will drop due to people wanting the "new" LST. Give it time and even if it doesn't, I'm sure many people will be unloading LST1's for smoking deals to buy the LST2.

Unless you can get a very cheap LST, wait for the LST2.

They've dropped $40 at my lhs-not worth it when you consider the cost of upgrades on the new version, not to mention the engine......

The LST spin start uses a hexagonal fitment on the backplate, where as the rotostart shaft uses a 'Dogboned' type arrangement, so they are not compatible.
