View Full Version : What is it about MT R/C...
the need

Good day folks. In my quest to purchase my first nitro vehicle, which I widdled down to the LST2, I'd like to see what is it about this hobby that people/you desire.
At 26 I'm just getting back into it after about 11 years. From what I recall, it was the tinkering of set-ups and "the need" for speed. Even driving the car, AE RC10, back and forth was a thrill. Why, I ask? What is it? My questioning is to help me justify spending $600+ in an old personal past time.
So, please discuss what is it that makes people/you feel content when zoning out in R/C. Also, why monster trucks?
Thank you.

since you have gone... top nitro speed record is 103mph and the electric is like 110. nitros are faster and engines more powerfull you can get a .12 that pushes 1.7hp and the vechiles are of better designs for the most part and there is nothing liek chasing kids at the bmx track with a 2ft long 15 pound savage :p doing 10+ ft jumps or tearing up the parking lot with a touring car at 60mph

I drive MT's because I like pushing the limits. when I drive, the speed gives a rush that can be pretty powerful. RC, like guitar playing, is an outlet for me. a way to get agression out and unwind. I sold my fav. monster truck, but now I'm building a better one and I can't wait for it to be done

Because they are big, loud, fast and a heck of alot of fun. Just remember, the 600 bucks is just the initial investment. Between my LST and MGT, I am right around the 1600.00 mark. That's just an estimate too. They are definatly worthwhile and a great way to relax and forget about life in general.

Just the answers I wanted to hear. I also participate in aggresive mountain bike activities. I use this outlet for combining excercise and aggresion. Though, I'm highly into tinkering with things which my bike can not do. Oil here, oil there and so on. This is not enough. I hear the frustration you all go through and it excites me. Tuning to precision and then seeing this land missile fly through the air. Excellent. Can't wait! I don't even know if there are any tracks in my area.
Peace.

Tracks? who cares if you have an MT you don't need no stinkin tracks. (although they are fun to run on) I do alot of running in new developments and construction sites. I work at a gravel pit so that is another good place to run. Just tear it up and have fun.

Nothing says Remote Control more than a big, loud and tough Nitro Monster Truck. Plus, you get more attention :D .

when I drive, the speed gives a rush that can be pretty powerful. :D :p Sorry about that but if you get a "powerful rush"from playing with your toys you must leed a boring life. :(

I drive and race the mt/s savages to be exact and the buzz you can actually get out of 1 of these is fantastic.I much prefer these to 1/10th 1/8th and truggies sorry if i offend anybody but i do.The mt/s you can push to the limit and actually see how much you can exceed these trucks. The strength duraility and fun you can get from these trucks is fantastic.
They will also do thing that 1/10 and 1/8ths could not copw ith i do not mean speed wise but the jumps and the strength of the mt/s .
I will be honest though mine is not a stock savage i have spend something in the region of around £200 maybe or a little more getting it all set up for racing so it is not cheap but durable and reliable and i tell you this much costs me less to repair than any of my other mt/s that i have had.
The best thing for you to do is if there is a local club/track near you take a look there and this gives you a better idea also see and check out what your LHS stocks and sell in spares wise else no good having truck if you cannot get spares pretty quick.Else the truck will be out of action more than you play with it

I used to chace my fat overweight dog around the yard with my 1/8 scale buggy. it was the only thing sheed chace.
I like the building and tinkering aspect of rc.
you have an imagination and a dremel tool you can just about make darn anything custom you thing you rc needs improving, make a wing, ajust servo mounts for better steering, port and polish engines for maximum power, polish aluminum things for the chrome look,
there is endless maintnence you can do for your rc viechle, the reward is 10 fold to your self if you enjoy that type of thing, and I think you do,
as a big plus, if your hurt from biking, like I am right now, you can run the rc and still get the extreme feelings like riding but with out getting your self hurt.

RrR- take a full sized car and backflip it. You heard me. If you walk away from it unharmed, no one saw you do it and theres no damage to the car, you'll have a rush alright. Maybe rush wasnt the right word.Ill change it to enjoyment/excitement.
happy now?

For me rc vehicles, replaced 2 former hobbies motorcycle riding and bodybuilding. I got really messed up in a car accident, and had abruised heart, 6 plates in my face and 26 screws. After over a year of not weight lifting and finally being released to do go back to it, I pushed to hard and hurt my back bad. Since those days weight training or riding bikes hurts my back. Rc vehicles give me an outlet that speed and power factor. The coolness factor, I mean look at the technology that goes into these babies and the bling factor out of the box they are a work of art. Now what would be cool is if more people owned them around where I live.
Someday I'll get back to my old hobbies, but for now the monsters suffice.
To me the clank of iron as you pump the weight, or the speed of a Kawasaki ZRX 1100, probabally 0 to 100 in under 5 seconds you gotta experience the rush!!
But yeah Rc monsters are amazing I really enjoy mine!!

My MTA/MGT is like...
I gave a up a fairly nasty Computer habit, I was looking for something new for over a year, finally my brother bought a little TTR SSK on a spur of the moment one day and that was it, BOTH HOOKED.
I decided i wanted one, and thot e-bay wud be cheaper, so I seen a MTA-4, didnt actually know wat it was :) till it came and I was like WOOOOOOO. Anyways it arrived busted so I had learn the fixing side pretty quick, I was never the hands on practical type before, but something (dunno wat) was great about it, after my initial 2 or 3 bashes, I just succumbed and started real bashing.
I still dunno wat the attraction is, its just what I was looking for tho, and now I cant get enough :D

NItro MTs are love/hate with me
To me hitting the same jump over and over again gets boring real quick, backflips really dont add anything either(look at me I can hold WOT-woo friggin hoo).To me The track is where its at but MTs are terrible performers.I look right past this becuase of the open rules of mt tho, Nothing feels better than when I show up at the track and no one has a truck like mine.
I guess the reason I like MTs is because of the amount of things you can do to customize them wether it be (shudders) bling bling or all go no show.I know no one else drives a truck with the same parts/setup as mine to me thats as cool as it gets.

Nice... I have close to $10k in 2 mountain bikes and 1 road bike so I was definitely a biker first. Now I love my MT (revo) because it is fast, handles well, and can jump like no tomorrow. And I can run over my friends buggy... always a plus.
