Thats right, when I was driving along my road with my RC10T my car suddenly lost all power, and poured out enough smoke to make the car virtually disappear. Running on 8 cells GP3300, Mtroniks "Plasma Pro" (540 6s rebranded), 9/60 gearing with Proline Masher 2000 tyres. After it stopped pouring out smoke I ran up to it, ripped the battery out and noticed the ESC was hot enough to un-solder the motor and capacitor cable from the +ve terminal. Its never got above being barely warm when I've ran it like this previously, including in this run when I last checked the temp it was fine. Motor was cool.
Sorry for the poor quality pic, best I can do.

obviously faulty luckily your in the uk just send it back to the mtroniks lads so they can send a replacement.
Oh by the way you didnt short anything did you?
The only thing i dont like about the mtroniks controllers is that the terminals are a bit open to being shorted.
Maybe one of the addtional diodes died and thus maybe shorted the controller out as well.
try to get a better pic you must know somone that has a better camera.

Nothing had shorted no. With this ESC I made a point to keep my solder connections clean and tidy, unlike my last one. I can't test the diodes but they all look fine and are still connected to their respective posts. None of them have popped.
I'll see about getting a better pic, I think even a pic off a mobile phone is better than my digi camera. Have emailed Starluckrc where I brought it but I'm going to speak with Mtroniks tomorrow and see what they say. Has to be a faulty unit, I can't see any other explaination.

b3racer, is that the genesis pro esc that went up in smoke? I'm on the verge of ordering the pro esc and it really makes me think twice now about mtroniks products... :(

As it says in the title, it is the Truck controller.

Aye its a Genesis Truck. Must have been a faulty unit as I ran this configuration with my Pro controller all summer, which to this day still runs brilliantly. I have no doubt they'll replace it with a nice new unit under warranty so I'm not too annoyed.

Heh, thanks :) I don't think I'll need to bug them much, just spoken with them and if I get it in the post today I should have a new one by the end of the week :) They were curious to know if any of the schottky diodes soldered onto the posts had cracked, and obviously if it had been shorted.
