But don't know where to start. I would like to get a good radio off the bat so I dont have to upgrade soon. What kinda planes...??

Also do I have to find "legal" places to fly them or is pretty much any open area legal?

Thanks,

Whatever you do, DO NOT waste your time reading previous threads or using the search feature for research . . only new responses to your specific questions are valid . . any previous contributions are "old information" and are obsolete. Even responses to similar topics just a few weeks ago are invalid, because those were discussions with someone else.

Although you are not interested in a ready to fly trainer, others might be . . the Easy Star RTF $150 sale price (http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/240025.asp) expires November 29th. Review (http://plawner.net/4/easystar/easystar.html)

To avoid potential radio frequency conflicts, a 3 mile separation from other RC aircraft flying sites is recommended.

I disagree with Aeropal. Past treads can contain much valuable information; information that may take days, weeks, or may never get to this tread.

You need to furnish a little more information to get specific responses. Do you want to do some serious building before you fly, in which case you would buy a kit; or do you want something that is nearly complete, requiring only some minor assembly and addition of a radio system, in which case you should be looking at the ARF planes.

Check out the treads on some of the other forums like RCUniverse and RCGroups.

I've been flying RC since September. I built a plane out of Dow Blue core foam available at Lowes. It took me less than a week to construct and that was working on it an hour here and there after work. There are lots of plans available out there to build planes out of this material. You can build a gentle flying trainer or a fully aerobatic 3-D type plane. The possiblilties are endless. Best part is you can put them together really fast and are they very easy to repair. They survive crasshes well too. I bought a Hitec Lazer 4 radio with 2 micro servos and a feather receiver. It cost me about $115.00. I spent another $30 on a motor and speed controller. The lipoly battery cost me about $16. The most expensive purchase was the charger. I bought a Triton and it set me back about $135. This forum is a great resource of information as well as RC groups which has a section for planes built out of blue core foam. Its called the Foamies section. If you want an almost ready to fly plane the Slow Stick is probably one of the better choices.

My appologies for not being familier with interenet chat forums. I will in the future not post any questions becuase I am sure they have all been asked and answered thoughly. I never said I was not interested in a ready to fly kit...I just stated that I did not want to buy a radio and then have to buy ANOTHER radio again in a couple months. BUT if kits are only $150 (and include radio??) then that isnt that bad. Thanks for being such a friendly and non-sarcastic bunch for a beginner to come in and get some questions answered.

kgoings,
I'd ignore post #2 in this thread. That post is not representative of most people on here.
