I bought the Kyosho Inferno MP 7.5 Sport. I would rather buy a car at radio shack then ever own one of those again. I gave it to someone and he thinks I ripped him off.

OK. Me and my friend both decided to get 1/8 buggies. He ordered the OFNA Ultra LX comp and I ordered the Inferno 7.5. We both got them about the same time. The first time I tried to race it the plastic spur gear stripped out. Well I replaced it because i had heard they wouldnt last long. I finally got it together to make it to the 3rd heat and the car kept dieing. It was running hot and causing it to die. I used the rest of the heat to tune the engine to run cooler but it had no speed. Thats Ok I had also heard the .21rg had overheating problems. After missing the main, I decided I would get a new motor for it. Well in order to put a diff. motor in it you have to buy motor mounts and a different pipe because the stock one bolts on. Also the clutch fell apart because it came with a 2 shoe clutch that uses a spring that wraps around the whole clutch. Before my 2nd race I would have had to replace the entire drivetrain. The car also has dogbones all the way around.
The Ofna that was the same price, came with standard parts that can be found on most higher end buggies. It has CVDs in the front, a steel spur gear, a normal header, laydown steering servo, a 3 shoe clutch, a .26 engine (that is still going strong), and shock towers that arent paper thin. I bought the OFNA from him and my 9 year old son drives it. It is still stock and he does pretty good in the sportsman buggy class. There is no way the Inferno could even race without a ***load of aftermarket parts and updates. The OFNA is a better deal hands down.
The 777 is a great buggy but the RTR Inferno is crap.

Ok U must have been very very very unlucky with yours. My Inferno's engine runs fine and it does'nt overheat. The gears have never been stripped at driving mine. My cluthc is fine and it works just like it should. The only problems i've ever had with it was that I wasn't so good at starting it. But now I now how to start it and it starts ok. And the only parts that has braked is the rear wing so I think it is durable. If yours was that bad U can't possibly have behaved it right or else it was full of faults from the factory..

i've owned the following:
mp 7.5 sports
mp 7.5 kanai 1
mp 7.5 kani 2
mp 777 sp1 fully modified with gerneric, fioroni and racers edge hops.
the sports mp 7.5 kit is great. i raced it the first few months, then learned the diffs were not shimmed at the factory. so, stripped the diffs. but it's an RTR, and an effort by kyosho to get your hands on the best kit around. ofna is the best at RTR and it's their bread and butter. if you want solid bashing quality out of a kit, go ofna. if you want to continue modifying your kit and upgrade it and also go LIGHTWEIGHT, do the sports. here's a video of the sports with an rb C5 rody on it (orange kit during the first 15 seconds).

that was 2 years ago at a bashing track. lot's changed since then. hehe. man, i miss the bashing days. now that i look at this video i can't believe how dusty that track was. the rear diff was prolly empty and the rear shocks needed a rebuild. haha, i was such a basher. :D
the second kit is the lx rtr.
black one with no lid is a mugen running the CMB.
third kit is the 9.5 pro rtr driven by tom wolf himeself.
i've got a landmax, which i think is based on the mp7.5 sport. My car has steel diffs
whats this about shims?

I think the best RTR kit you can get is the Jammin X1-CR RTR.

i don't know about other kyosho rtr kits, but you need to shim the diffs internally or they will strip. the spider gears are softened metal much like the stock knuckles. not the racing hardened steel spider diffs like the 777 sp1 and sp2 kits.
