how things work: 2 speed ?

anyone feel like explainin how a two speed tranny works, i dont know if its vehicle specific or if they are all the same, i have an ofna ld-3 nitro touring car

for the stock hpi rs4 3 ones, im pretty sure theres a small clutch type thing in it, and at the set RPM the clutch engages and that engages the 2nd gear. something like that.
