View Full Version : BK warrior 7018 and 9920
I have a basic 4200 lying around, thinking of getting either 7018 or 9920 from finedesign, its for my 1/10 4wd touring and 1/10 4wd buggy, running on 6 cell nimh and planning to upgrade to 3s or 4s lipo when budget allows. which would be better? I might use the warrior in my emaxx too(currently runs on uf75 with feigao 12s) when I wanna go more than 12 cells as I intend to buy a feigao 8 or 9L. Findesign stated that the 9920 currently on sale has upgraded car software, but read from threads here that 9920 has cogging problem. which one should I get? their price diffrence is around 80usd.does bk sell computer links for their warrior esc and can their firmware be upgraded ? how is their customer service?thanks.

I don't have these controllers but from what everyone has said in the past I would recomend the 99 series over the 70, especially since you might run it in the maxx. The 7018 will run very hot in a maxx. Isn't the U75 running hot?
Check out www.rcmonster.com for the 9920. Finedesign will say anything to get a sale, and he doesn't know jack about anything but boats. His reputation here is not good to say the least.

Finedesign have a very bad, and in my opinion well deserved reputation..buy from www.rcmonster.com for the warriors, and www.starluckrc.com for pretty much everything else :)
I'd definately go for the 9920 if you think you might use it in a Maxx in the future. Infact in your position I'd use the U75 in the smaller cars and the 9920 in the Maxx, that way you won't have to worry about any potential low voltage cogging problems.
Thanks for the inputs guys. occasionally I do run my maxx on 6cells only for fun and longer runtime.thats why i'm concern on 9920's cogging problem.

Instead of running on just 6 cells, you could run 12, in parallel, for masssive runtime (and a bit more power than just 6 cells due to distributed amp draw = less voltage drop). For low voltages on the 9920 you may have to buy a UBEC device and disable the 9920's BEC.

the bk 9920 does cog very little(barely noticable) in the emaxx(jamie from starluck said its b/c of the drivetrain slop) and i also used it in my evader on 12 cells and the cogging was more noticable, but it was also 2wd, so in a 4wd set-up it might not be as noticeable. The main concern that i had with it in my evader was the sudden high output of power to the wheels making it a burnout machine even at medium speeds, but for high speed and long runtime its still an amazing set-up.
you mean even in medium speed it will not accelerate smoothly?

i have both the 9918 and the 7018. and i only get cogging (very little) when i first take off at very slow speeds. also i have ordered from all three places and have had good luck with all three of them. fine disign is a little hard to get a hold of for problems but mine have all worked out fine.

just at slower speeds, once you get moving past apprx 5mph its fine, im sure they'll come out with upgraded software soon enough.
Ok I'll email Jamie about it, bought some stuff from him before and he has been very helpful.
Just saw that mamba maxx and monster maxx has been advertised in CC's site that they are coming soon. Will have more choice then. thanks guys

RC Mike mentioned on his forum the other day that the new 9920's have a software update that eliminates cogging on low cell counts.
