transmitter flag. you put it on your antena on your transmitter and it lets other know what chanel you are on

I like to use mine (to protect the top of my antenna). i dont need it tho.

That wasn't a dumb question? I didn't know it either......... ; )
The flag is to let people see where the end of your antenna is so they don't walk into it (it can take an eye out). The frequency flag is to let people know what frequency you are on. I don't believe that I have ever used either on my radios and I have had close calls where I almost had an antenna tip hit me in the eye (someone else's radio being waved in the air as they drive!).
