I'm familiar with the setups for 1/18 scale vehicles....but not 1/10 scale stuff....Are there classes people run these in, and what type of speeds & runtime are you getting?
We are getting a fairly large outdoor track close by, and I was curious if you can keep up with the 1/8 buggy nitro stuff.....

Yea we run them in 1/10 off road all the time in the charlottee, area, most of have lipos and get from 20 to 30 minutes run time, regular 3300 around 9 minutes. I have the 5.5 gtb and love it
I usually cut my throttle back to 70 percent, it has plenty of power to keep up with anything if you can handle it LOL ;)

What is the speed like? Similar to the 1/8?

I run a Lehner Basic 4200 and MGM 80 (they are for sale) and on 6 cells i hit around 32 mph in my xxx-t, with 20 minutes of runtime on gp 3700's. This motor can handle up to 10 cells while the ESC can do lipo from 2-4s and 6-12 cells. Great little setup, pm me if interested.
1/8th buggies usually do into the low/mid 40's if i am correct. At least at wide open throttle. Most 1/10th brushless motors achieve this on 7 to 8 cells. Depending on what type of batteries you run, you have a wide range of motor choices and a few controllers.

I run the GTB 6.5 in a T4. You could go as fast as 1/8 scales but you need traction( on a track). It's hard to beat 4wd. As far as top speed, It'll do about 40. There are a couple of hotshots at our track who run lap times comparable to 1/8 with brushless trucks, but they are excellent drivers and know how to get traction.

are you guys serious that they keep up with 1/8 nitro buggies

Good info here.....almost makes me want to get a XXX4 just to make a brushless setup....prob would move pretty good.....
But I think I am going to go toward the stadium trucks......cheaper, and easier to maintain.....(I am getting 2 boys started in racing....trying to, at least)

On my local track yes, but they don't accelerate like 1/8, they can't hook up like that, and if they do hook up you can't keep the front end down :) I was talking lap times. Also, I think the guys I was refering to are better drivers than most of the 1/8 guys we have.
I was watching the Mod 4wd 1/10 buggies yesterday and I believe they are just as fast as the 1/8 on acceleration and speed but they get bumped around so much it slows them down. On a really smooth track, I think they would be the fastest off road class period.
These are just my observations, and I'm no expert. :)

i have been very happy with the BL setups i have in my stampedes and rustlers:
stampede #1
- novak ss5800
- 7cells
- 21/87
- Ghawg tires
stampede #2
- Hacker master comp controller w/ lehner basic 5300
- 7cells
- 16/87
- M2k tires
Rustler #1
- schulze U-Force 75 w/ lehner basic 5300
- 7cells
- 16/87
- M2k tires
Rustler #2 (not completed yet)
- schulze 18.97 KWF w/ Nemisis 12s
- 12cells
- gearing is undecided
- Ghawg tires (so far)

Joostin those are some nice setups. In particular the U-FORCE/5300 setup would be great for what I do (racing). If I didn't like my Novak GTB 6.5 so much I'd give it a serious look. The U-FORCE is a very smooth sensorless controller and I've come to realize how important that is in off road racing.

the Uforce 75 is definately a nice controller and smoother than my hack Master Comp, but i really cant complain about the Master comp because it works very well for the price.

thats cool i just didnt think many electrics would hav the guts to giv a nitro a run for its money

:D lol
it's alright, lots of people assume that.
Brushless electrics hold the speed record for cars and boats so obviously they can hold there own and then some.

Back to this subject....I am looking for something that would be good for a Stadium truck and possibly a 1/10 4wd buggy. I assume I would use a 2 cell Li-Po, but would like the ability to run a 3cell for fun now and then, in the event of some parking lot fun at work against a NTC3......

The Feigao 380C 9t or Lehner Basic 4200 would both fit that application rather well.

Are these just the Motors? I am looking for a combo....aka a good combo...the Novak GTB stuff looks good, but also see\hear alot of failures, broken eqpt also...

Those are the motors. You can run them on a Mtroniks Genesis Pro controller:

i have a losi xxx4G+ that I put a xmaxx sized XL4200 lehner in it and handles awesome! I also took a jato and converted it into a BL electric. I used a basic 5200 lehner for that and I have had no problems.
for speed and torque most people will recommend a 7 to 9 turn equivalent bl or 4200 to 5200 rpm per volt motor. Nemesis motors tend to be all speed, lehner tends to have alot more torque than the others. Hacker, insane speed with decent torque. Those are all sensorless. I hear alot of good things about the novaks but i wasnt impressed with the sensor. on my 5.5. they now are coming out with a 4.5 which will add way more speed and less torque- probally more ideal for onroad.
Powering- I am using 6 to 8 cells for my XXX4 and im thinking about trying lipo. Im hesitant since I think the buggy will be too light since it allready skips over grass almost as if it is too light. the xxx4 is configured for 7 cells max but I have a extra cell soldered onto a wire that is strapped on elsewhere on the buggy. that info can help ya with a t4 or b4 setup.

A 4200kv BL motor will run pretty similarly to a 12t brushed motor, and a 5300 will be about like a 9t brushed.
Nemesis/Feigao motors (the "S" size) are longer than the Lehner Basic series motors, and so will produce more torque than the Lehner Basic motors. Hacker and Nemesis/Feigao are pretty similar, in that the Hacker will only be a few % more efficient (not much). Also, you can't compare motors this way, as there are different sizes. If you take a Feigao/Nemesis/Wanderer 7XL (twice the length of a Lehner Basic) and compare its torque to a Lehner Basic motor, there won't even be a comparison.

Side question:
Is the Jato faster, not that it is brushless?
I would be interested in a setup that is similar to a 10x2, as our local tracks are HUGE, compated to most I have seen.

I have the jato geared the same as the nitro version. The Lehner that is on it generates the same rpms that the trx does with a 7 cell battery (I was going to go with a nemesis 6s that would generated more than the trx with a 6 cell but opted for more torque).
As opposed to the nitro jato, this BL version wheelies on command. In grass or on the concrete. Unlike the nitro version, the wheelies do not end up in endos. It is quicker to accelerate and get up to top speed than the nitro version, easier to maintain, and just as fun to drive. and yes, the 2 speed is still in it and it does do the same speed as the nitro version with 2nd gear.
Im not a nitro hater. I own more nitro than electrics. I own two jatos. One nitro and the other I converted. I might be selling that BL Jato in the future since I am trying to afford a track setup Hyper 8. Hopefully I will not have to sell it and I can keep it. Out of the two jatos, I have more in my nitro version and I can make a conversion anyday (its what I like to do and enjoy conversions).
