You shouldn't need to use the fan, so that would decrease the height. But, if it will fit with the body on, then it is a good idea to use it.

No need to use the fan in the B4 (been there done that, had no temp issues at all). Without the fan, the body will fit fine. I do recommend using the scoops, just for a little insurance.

Is there a way to mount the fan on the side of the ESC so it fits inside a buggy?

If you take the spacers out from under the fan, and put it down on the heatsink, it fits under the body. It's a bit tight, so I switch one of the Cap Head Screw out for a Button Head to stop the body from rubbing the blades of the fan.

You could probably even leave that screw off if you had to. I do use all four screws in my pede, but with just two screws in place I can lift the whole pede by grabbing the fan case. Those screws are strong, and removing the spacers would let them grip even better, so I think using only three would be ok.

The idea is the Button Head Screw sits on top of the fan slightly, The Head Doesn't fit the special area of the fan that the Cap Head does, so there is a little area just above the blades of the fan to pull in fresh air.

Hello! I am interested in putting the fan on my GTB which is mounted in my B4. However, I hope this doesn't sound too stupid on my part, but could I get a little better explanation of the which screws to use? My fan was mounted with 4 screws that it came with of which I think are called "cap head"? They are not button head I know that much...I think! So, with that, what is the ideal screw setup so I can run the fan and not have the body hit it? Just take the spacers out and put te fan back on with the screws that were originally holding the fan on? Thanks in advance!

shuriken the idea behind using caphead scews is that the body shell wont be able to rub the fan blades you can get the same effect with foam or plastic spacers on the corners of the fan over the screws.

I personaly would cut a ventillation hole as well so that you get air from outside the shell going directly onto the heatsink.

chilledoutuk,

Ok, sounds like a good idea. I think I will do both(fan/vent hold). I just run a stock motor on my GTB right now but for future mod motor runs I will probably do this. This sounds like the proper way to approach any presumed heat issues before they even have a chance to happen! Thanks again! :)
