Ya stop in and say HI, Check out all the cars they keep in stock . Were all getting together to drive over at the Fuquay Community Center on Sat around 2pm. Great area for Road races and plenty of grass and hills for off road and room to fly Helios and Park flyers.

Otto and Anna are great, they have about any Traxxas,HPI,CEN,and Losi Lst parts you could want in stock. With all the rain on Saturday's there has been alot of good guys in there talkin RC. But I have heard rumors of a track going up near Duncan.

I talked to a guy at the Hobby shop today and he said they should be up and running in a couple of months, lap counter and all. I can't wait for some off-road 1/8 scale action locally for a change, tired of traveling 3 hours in every direction twice a month. :) If anybody hears anything else keep us posted on this site so we will have a good racer base before the track even opens, thanks.

i would suggest putting in an asphalt track for touring cars, offroad tracks are alot of work to maintain, and offroad racing is not popular at all!!!...if it were asphalt I can almost guarentee there will be 40+ racers every weekend, and that means more $$$ for the hobby shop.

Excuse me, I must say your mistaken. Offroad is the biggest thing out there and from what I've heard the track is already mostly built. Every race I go to in the Charlotte area has anywhere from 75 to 300 racers depending on the type of race. I'm sure the Hobby shop guys know what is big and what is not around here that why they went with off-road. If you want to race on road why don't you support the tracks in this area that are already here like Rosewood they have an indoor and outdoor road course tracks just outside Goldsboro, and there's a big outdoor asphalt track in Durham that I've never seen more than 30 there on a good day. Not to mention all the parking lot tracks everywhere, there are no off-road tracks in our area so I welcome the idea and would definitly support it, just my two cents.

There is a local off-road track... Thunder Alley in Wilson. :)
The racing is fun, the people are great and the on-site hobby shop is outstanding.

Good things can come from supporting what local tracks we do have; so c'mon out to Wilson on July 22nd. With racer support, genuine interest and feedback; I am sure that improvements can be made as well. ;)

I see no reason not to support the tracks already in existence. Thunder Alley tries to make RC Racing a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.

That being said, I would also be interested in a new off-road track local to the greater Raleigh area. :D

Hey guys,
Racing at the Home Depot parking lot on Thursdays in Fuquay Varina. We start setting up the track at 7pm and take it down at 10pm.
Now, there is some racing...but mostly guys playing around trying to set up there cars. You are able to see Nitro and electric cars on track at same time (interesting) and everything from Mamba Mini-t's, Touring cars and Jato stadium trucks at the same time.
Its alot of fun and Otto even brings a track kit to set up. Come early and help set up and have alot of fun. See you there.

Just my 2 cents.. I live in Charlotte and never seen 75 to 300 racers at any club race maybe 60 1 time at best... Way too many tracks of 1 sort to feed all shops.. Major races maybe the Farm gets a thumbs up for crowd thats about it.. I think what Justin was trying to say,Is how about something diffrent than off road to give us a mix... This is not a bash as I like all racing and support all shops because with out them this hobby would be gone...

There is not a offroad track in the triangle right now but there is an on road track and plenty of parking lot racing. most of the offroad is 1.5 hours or more from Raleigh Durham so I think this may be a good choice since the average first rc is an offroad car and your average parent is not likely to drive that far for the first racing experience.

On Friday nights ToyTown Hobby (this shop in Fuquay) puts a little roadcourse together at the Tractor Supply Company parking lot in Fuquay. Lots of fun. Free and run whatever you want, just make sure your channel is clear. I went last week, didn't go last night because I was building a new Suzuki Swift for a friend that wants to join us in RC. I will be out again though. Lots of fun.

I went out for the onroad action at the Tractor Supply this past friday.

LOADS of fun! Run what ya brung. Most everyone runs nitro TC's of some sort. A lot of RS4's. I think I had the only NTC3.

We ran from 8pm-12:30 or so. Lots of great guys...havent had that much fun in a while!

Hey guys,
just wanted to give some props to you all! i stopped by the store today for the first time and checked out the roack crawler course and it looks terrific! Then Justin and I checked out the off road @ 92 truelove rd holly springs, nc and that's really gonna be top notch. Can't wait for that for sure! count two of us in for 4wd electric and 1/8 buggy when that comes to life. I would suggest some bigger jumps in the infield and change the rythem section to a double- triple or somethin. you just can't get a rythem like mx's do in rc as great as it looks. Other than that i like the layout and look forward to racing there.

On another note i noticed that you have a good thing goin with the parking lot bashing. If anyone's interested in some real competition, Rosewood has a very nice on-road both paved and carpet. the carpet is on a bi-weekly schedule oval and on-road alternating. I'm certain if you wanna run what ya brung there will be a class designated for that also.

So I finally just got real into this again, after always playing with RC cars as a kid, then getting into computer building, then body building, its back to RC cars. I have been playing around with my old graphite RC10 for the past few years, and its just starting to break faster than I can drive it. I just bought an HPI savage x 4.6, wanted to try to whole off road thing out. I definitely want to check out toy town hobbies, and it looks like they have a pretty sweet track. However, my question is where are some good places to take it just to bash, and play around with it around Raleigh? I was thinking umstead park might have some good places in it, but not sure how well that would go over with people there. If you have any suggestions of just some good offroad terrain around the area I'd love to hear! Thanks! I should be getting to the on road parking lot races more too hopefully, see if the RC can survive a lap hehe.

other than that just find a construction sight and or a new road being built and go to it. go 30 mins up the road to wilson on hwy 42 and there is a nice off road track you can bash on any time with out a membership.toytowns off road track you have to be a member to play on ,on a nonrace day.$100.00 bucks for membership i think.:((toytown's track is very nice too.)Otto and dave have done alot over there, wish it was closer to me.

We just added a new banked paved oval to our facility which also has an indoor carpet ozite track for oval and road racing as well as an outdoor road racing coarse. We're currently the largest R/C racing facility in NC and have the stiffest competition with local Justin Lessard who is your ROAR 2008 nat'l champion! Sorry for all the questions but I want to think hard about which class to run. Would love to run a 4wd but understand there are not enough regularly for a class. I am ready to give up on onroad. I can not get to the wood often enough especially since onroad is summer only there now.

Jesse,
I was not going to mention this before because unfortunately I do not come down often but the tire rule in 17.5 pretty much sealed the deal. I have 2 sets of unused mounted tires and 1 set of 1 race tires that are now useless and I am not going to drive an hour and a half to have to buy new tires and mount them and then the next time I come down have totally different rules in effect or not know if the class I run will even be there anymore. I love touring but have been wanting to try of road for a while and this just seems like the time to do it. I love the wood and if it was closer and I could run more often it might make a difference but those things unfortunately dont look to change soon.

TQ,
I think I understand where you're coming from. It's tough enough for the locals to continue racing with everyone feeling the pinch now days, let alone trying to talk some Joe off the street into coming to race with us. At the end of the day the hobbyshops need to make close to the amount of money that they have invested in the whole facility. That means we need more racers period. If the owners don't make that money, then it becomes and charity and not a business. Then we see tracks disappear. At a local level our track needs to help the budget racer have classes that have competition but not need to spend $50-$100 in tires every weekend. It's too easy these days for someone to put on a brand new set of 30's and go TQ, which leads to more people doing the same thing. Tires are a huge factor and we have enough competitive drivers that anyone of them could drop the money and TQ. The tires we've found are the same price w/rim as many people are paying just for tires. But the cool factor is that the first run isn't the fastest. The 2nd-4th runs are! I have one set of tires that i must have run 20 times on!(so many that i've forgotten anyway!) But 30's are two run tires and often down to the cord by the third run and trashed in 5-6. I understand the reasons for keeping it open but it's just gotten out of hand as racing normally does. But if you have money and tires, by all means run Mod. But I don't think a little thicker wallet at the end of the day will hurt anybody's feelings. Good Luck with your off-road venture. Run Slashes if you're on a budget. My buddy and i ran 1/8 and quickly remembered why I stopped last year, lol. Slashes are the best thing goin in off-road right now! Mainly b/c it keeps the costs down and it's still great fun! Cape Fear has an excellent membership program that i think could be adapted everywhere.

tarheelquality
06-10-2009, 12:56 PM
I was looking at slash though I may try something else just have to see.

Last time I was at the wood I won 17.5 runing the same tires all day and did my fastest run in the Main on some 32s. But I can understand about the 30's. I have not run anything but Sorex 32 and 36 for several years though and not had problems. I wish everyone the best of luck down there and hope it goes well. I was going to come on the 20th and 27th but will probably run out to Cape Fear and check it out now.

I will ention something else about Cape Fear that seems like something that the Wood needs to look at though. The 10am start time. As many folks as you have driving a long way not starting till the afternoon, especially during summer with the heat and then driving home 1 to 2+ hours after 6pm, does not seem the best idea.

Is 1/10th electric open motor and electric only?
Buggy and Truggy open to Electric 1/8th or just nitro?

1/10th 2WD Open includes 1/10 2WD electrics (I.E. T4/B4/Rustler) with any motor, any battery. Also includes 2WD Nitro (I.E. GT2/Nitro Rustler). Must be 1/10th, must be 2WD. The class is currently mixed with 2WD electric buggies, electric stadium trucks and nitro stadium trucks. NO 4WD!

Electric 1/8th is allowed in the 1/8th sportsman buggy and truggy classes. I have seen 1 truggy at a race and I know of several people who run there that have buggies.
