I'm thinking of a 380c motor and a Mtroniks Genisis pro controller from Starluck. I would like to run a 3s or PREFERABLY 4s lipo. The main problem I have is finding a lipo that will fit the B4 batt box. It's short compared to a truck.

What do you guys think about the Polyquest 2500mah 20c 4s packs from www.hobby-lobby.com ? I believe these would fit but I would like more capacity if possible. The pack is 5 1/4 inches, anything of this length or shorter would work I think. Anyone run a 4s setup in a B4? I was thinking about the 380c-13t for a motor.

What other lipo options do I have for 4s? What about 3s? I could go to a 380c-9t and run 3s but would like to try 4s.

Again, length is the issue here.

Thanks.

The 13t/4s 2500mah 20C setup would work well. What is the maximum length for a battery that the B4 can take?

I'm thinking 5 1/4 inches is about max, to leave a little room for wires to clear.

If you can take the price, you could buy 2 Maxamps 2s 4000mah packs. These are 5.20" long, and 1.73" wide. Total height would be 1.02" (just a few millimeters taller than a 6cell pack). The cost is $85 per 2s pack.
There aren't too many other choices (besides the expensive TP) that would fit. The reason for this is that many airplane people want narrow cells, so many companies are producing cells that are about 35mm (1.38") wide. This makes the cells longer, so that they won't fit properly in a car.

Oh so you are saying I could buy two and wire them in series? How would you go about that? Is it simple?

I may just go with the maxamps 3s 4000 pack. It is 132mm. I think 6 cells is 138mm so it should work correct?

I'm either going to go with the Polyquest 20c 2500 4s and a 380 13t or the max amp 4000 3s with a 380c 9t. The max amps is rated at 48 amp cont. Would this be enough current for the 9t?

Unless someone has a better solution?

Thanks tcolesen

Wiring in series is very easy. Just take the postive from one pack, and hook it up to the negative of the other pack. There will be 2 remaining wires, the positive one and the negative one. These are then hooked up to the speed control.

The setups you mentioned will both work just fine. 48amps continuous is plenty for the 9t.

Hi,
I have the following set-up with my B4:

- motor: 380C 9turn
- lipo: polyquest 2500 XP (20C) 2S (7,4 volt)
- pinion/gear: 18/84

it works flawlessly, tried over every surface (dirt, apshalt, grass, ecc.....); average runtime is about 15-20 min. Driveability is excellent and top speed is enough .... ;)
I think 2S is quite enough with this motor (9T) to get excellent performance on the track; too much power is difficult to right-manage........
however with 3S you get blast-performances........ maybe too much
the more cells, the higher the total car weight......the lesser the car agility.....

leomax- Your setup is very interesting. Sounds like a very agile, light weight car. Very efficient. I may duplicate that setup for my tight indoor track and use a 3s pack for bashing and showing off.

I have a kokam 3s 3200 pack on the way that will be used with the 380c 9T in a xxx4. I'll let you know how it goes. The battery is the exact same size as a 6 cell ni-mh pack so it should fit just fine.

Nice, Where'd you get the Kokam pack?

Well I ordered my Lipos. I decided to get a Polyquest 2500 20 C 2S pack for light bashing/racing, and a Kokam 3200 20 C 3S pack for fun and speed.

I guess I'll order the 380c-9t and Genisis pro from Starluck but it's going to be a long wait before it's shipped since they are closed right now. I guess I can wait a month. :)

What will I need with the Genisis pro and 380c? 3 sets of 3.5mm gold connectors? What sbout some wire? Does the Genisis have wires for batt and motor or will I need to get some wires to run from ESC to batt and motor? Looking at the motor on Starluck site, the wires are short so I will not be able to hardwire and the Genisis shows no wires coming from the ESC? maybe some 12 or 13 AWG wire?

Actually yes the Genesis Pro comes with cables for motor/ESC, but they're not very high quality, somewhere in the region of 14-15AWG. Your best off getting some 12AWG cable to run between the motor and ESC, and a single pack of 3.5mm connectors from Starluck's website should contain 3 plugs.

I just got my lipos from hobby lobby already! Talk about fast shipping. I just used standard shipping and wasn't expecting them so soon.

They are both going to fit just fine. The little 2500 pack is so..."cute" lol. It's so tiny and weighs nothing but can deliver 50 amps! The Kokam 3s 3200 is identical to a 6-cell stick pack and will fit fine and should be a blast with the 380-9t when I get it. I'm very happy with these. I'll let y'all know how they perform when I get my setup from Starluck, which will be a few weeks.
