Santa brought me an HV Maxx this year. Hehehe! I know it's probably not as powerful as an mtroniks/feigao setup, but for my purposes, it should be just fine, plus it has a pimpin' little purple fan and mounting bracket:D. I can't wait to see what this sucker can do. Eventually I'll get a 4300 motor and run that on 12 cells as well, and see what it can do.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah, and Happy Holidays.:)

12 cell anything in a rusty would kick some major butt.
have fun with that man, i know i would. :D

How do the HV's compare to other systems? What type of amps and watts does it pull?
Anyways should be a wheelie machine in a rusty!
Bash it till it breaks!

Not sure yet. I haven't been able to solder deans on the battery ends yet, so it hasn't been used, just installed:(. I have to wait for company to leave. DOH! I'll probably get around to using it tomorrow. The motor is rated at 375 watts, probably output, but I'm assuming that's on 14.4 volts. On 16.8, it's probably more. Maybe I should get one of those watt meters that measures peak amps, volts, watts, etc. O well, birthday's coming up too (jan. 15th....score!) :D
Happy Holidays guys!

Ok, just finished taking it for a spin (yes, at 11:30 pm EST). All I can say is HOLY CRAP!!!!   This thing is rediculously overpowered. Running 15/90 gearing and M2K tires, my Rusty is extremely quick, smooth, and still hitting a good 40+ mph (guestimating). It can wheelie like it's nothing at half throttle. This thing is absolutely beastly. Hehehehehehe! I've run into one problem though. The slipper clutch is probably going to melt if I forget to tighten it every few minutes. Sooooo, what can I do to help secure it? It's locked down as far as the nut will go. :D Other than that......yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw! :D :D (I feel like a little kid again, even though I'm still technically a kid! :D )

Could you put a 2nd nut on the slipper that locks against the 1st one, to stop it backing off? I had to do this to my RC10 T2 with my 8L on 9-12 cells. You should be able to hit a lot more than 40mph with 12 cells in a rusty with the right gearing as well :) Do you have any idea on the loaded kv of the motor?

ElectricThunder, I am your man for a brushless Rustler :). I run a Feigao 12s (surely you know that) on 3s Lipo (hoping to go 4s Lipo again). Anyways, I have a pretty loose slipper clutch to keep from stripping spur gears (:) ). What you need is either a Kimbrough or HPI spur gear (not the Traxxas type), and then you need some steel 1/8" differential balls. Here is what I am currently using:

The Kimbrough 90t spur gear doesn't fit under the gear cover, but the HPI 90t does:

You might simply need a new lock nut. Are you using slipper pegs or balls?

Have you thought about going 32P in your rustys? I would with more than 3s lipo, and with the HV Maxx system in one. That way you can run the slipper tight enough to accelerate without slipping more than a ft or two, but not rip teeth off the spurs.

I saw that on swami-rc. I wasn't sure it'd work as well with a brushless as with a brushed. Thanks T! I already run a 90 tooth spur, so I never use a gear cover, and so far, no problems from that. I need a wheelie bar though....(Swami Bar!)
b3racer- I'm geared 15/90. It's probably around 40-45 mph I guess, not exactly sure though (all I know is it kicks the crap outta my 5800 system). I need to get a local cop to radar it one day to get a semi-accurate estimate. As for kv under load, maybe 3300ish? I found out that the HV maxx motor is apparently a 6.5 turn motor according to Novak's little catalogue that comes in the box.
Muck- using the stock pegs, but am going to try the diff ball trick. I don't think it's the lock nut. I think the pegs are just getting worn down VERY fast. The slipper plates are HOT if I run it and it's even slightly loose. Before I run it, I tighten it down though. I'm thinking the pegs, but we'll see I guess. I can always change the nut though and see if that helps.
Racing T- Maybe some day. Unfortunately, I just lathed the diff gear some how :D . I gotta pick up two (mine as well prepare for the worst eh?) tomorrow, so right now, it's outta commission (I know, I broke it already....lol!)
Thanks guys! Ya'll have been a big help, especially Tcoleson.
Edit- Forgot to ask, 3.5mm plugs are big enough to use on 14 gauge wire correct? I want to put some 3.5mm plugs on HV Maxx ESC, my 5800 motor, and the HV motor so I can switch between stuff, and in the future, a 4300 motor as well. Thanks guys, again!

3.5mm plugs work with 14ga. wire. I have managed to stuff 12ga. into them though :).

Schweet. Thanks!
Going to see what I can pick up at the LHS tomorrow as well. What I don't get there will be ordered from tower. I love HV brushless stuff....:D:D:D

Thats probably a really fun setup. How heavy is that thing on 12 cells? I bet thats a pretty powerful setup. You can hit 50mph pretty easy with that much power. I bet its a handful to control, I can barely control mine on a lehner 5300 on 10 junk cells at almost 50mph let alone much more tourque on 12 cells.
Have fun with it!

It's probably weighing in around 4 lbs give or take. A lot of the weight is centered in the middle of the chassis though (COG is still higher than I'd like), as I have the batteries stacked/zip tied one on top of the other. It's definitely fast, and I've yet to push it to its true limits.:D Running M2ks, it's twitchy at speed.
So for speed runs, instead of using the M2ks, I'm going to be using proline road hawgs on RPM clawz rims (2 pair of fronts, so that the back wheelbase is extended for more stability). Also gonna run taller gearing than now (probably start at 17/90 or 15/87), and somehow shoehorn the heatsink it came with in there, or get a new heatsink to fit the motor (I dremeled out the tranny case, but it still won't fit the monstrous HV maxx heatsink). Eventually, I'll try two 7 cell 1900 tower hobbies packs on it and see how fast it'll go, then two 7 cell GP or IB packs once I go back to work...:D

ET, you may want to use those M2Ks for speed runs. I have found that street tires don't balloon enough, and don't provide as much traction as Dirt Works (somewhat similar tread pattern to M2Ks). You also won't be able to gear it for street tires as well as you can for M2Ks, since you would need a very large pinion. Or, just use Dirt Works :). They last a long time and provide TONS of traction on pavement.

Well, my problem with using the M2Ks is they're glued on pretty crappily. They wobble a great deal at speed, so things get pretty hairy and really uncontrollable. Plus I'm saving the M2ks for off road.:D
