I have the older .21 version of the MGT. I know the new one with the .28 engine now has the beefier steel gearing in the tranny. I was thinking of swapping the .21 out for a .28-.30 big block. I wonder if anyone has made this swap yet and how the tranny held up to the increased HP. Thanks for any replies.

Check the MGT section I know a few have gone to.26 and I believe one to .28.

The tranny in my MGT has held up to a Sirio .27 XL Racer.

i dont think anyone has had problems with the tranny gears stripping, it is just a gimmick to sell more trucks imo
i have an hpi .28 in my mgt with about two and a half gallons thru it and i havent had to replace a single part on it since i bought it

I put a Diablo .28 in my MGT without any gear stripping issues. It's all in the slipper setting :)

I recently swaped the .21 for a Picco .26 and the gears have held up fine the only thing that has broken is the 2 speed shaft in the tranny.
Driving habits play a big role I think.

I have an HPI .28 in my MGT and haven't had a single tranny problem. The MGT's tranny is as tough or tougher than any other truck's.
