View Full Version : How will the 380c 9t motor run on 2s lipo, and what about 3s?

I've got the 380c 9t motor already ordered but I am looking for a power comparison. Can anyone compare it to brushed motors on standard voltage ( 6 cells or 2s lipo)? How about the ss5800? From my calculations I was thinking it would run about like the 5800 on 2s lipo or a 14 turn brushed and stupid fast on 3s. What about torque compared to the 5800?

I'm thinking it would be perfect for racing in my B4 on 2s or 6-cells. What kind of speed could I see in the little buggy on 3s? Anyone done any speed runs with the 380 9t on 3s lipo or 9 cell?

I had both the ss5800 and the 380 9t in the form of the motonics sport combo. Not sure if the (c) version would make much difference. They were very similair in performance. The fact the feigo was so much lighter made the car feel a bit more nimble in the corners but I think the 5800 hade more torque and similair top speed.

I agree with Jev the 380 9t is around 12-13 turn performance, I would say its a tad faster overall than the SS5800, but I run mine on a Pro controller not a Sport so it may have been able to draw bigger amp spikes. On 3s its gonna be very fun, even on 6 NIMH cells though its good.

Awesome. Thanks.

I'm kind of excited, waiting for my motor and controller. Got about two weeks left. :)

Look me up tomorrow at CRCC. I have a brand new Fiegao 380 9 turn that I am not using! You are welcome to try it. I have a Hacker C40 8 turn also that is just a little hotter and I have a Plettenberg Shadow motor that is the fastest motor I have.

I've had both the ss5800 and the 380c 9t. I think the 380c 9t has more torque than the novak and more rpm under a load. The 380c 9t also has more kv than the regular 380 9s. 4565 vs. 4386. I almost doubt that the the mtroniks motors are exactly the same as the feigao motors anyway. I also have the feigao 540 6s motor and it's nothing like the plasma pro is decribed.

Scoob, the 380c 9t on 3s lipo should be able to reach about 50 mph in a buggy. I have the setup in my xxx4, but I haven't had a chance to try it much since it's been rainy here for 10 days in a row.

Tim- I'll try to make it too the track tomarrow. I may be busy though, and I appreciate the offer. I may have to try it out.

SpeedyBL- 50 mph sounds great. I am mostly going to be bashing/playing with this buggy after the current points series is over so the 3s will be a blast. I've only used this buggy for racing but there is not a lot of competition in the 2wd buggy class around here. However, if that changes I'll have a good race setup by simply droping to 6 cell/2s.

thanks.

I have all 3 motors with male gold plugs on them. All you have to do is hook them up and try them.

What ESC do you have to try them with?

Woops!... I don't even have the ESC yet. I'm getting the Genesis Pro but Starluck is closed down right now. Didn't you try this one out a while back at the track, said it was smooth. That's why I decided to buy this one, I trust your Knowledge with sensorless controllers cause I don't have any experience with them.

I thought you were talking about letting me try the ESC and motor but then I remembered you sold that ESC to Derik right? Oh well :)

Anyways I'll get the Mtroniks soon enough. Hopefully I can make it to CRCC tomarrow. I'd like to talk to you and Derik in person about your experience with that controller. Who knows, if it's smooth enough, I may put it in my Pro Truck. :)

I never really got to test/use it much. Dereck smoked his Schulze and needed an ESC, I needed it tested for Jamie, so I sold to him on condition he gives me test results that he did on CarolinasRC forum. To sum his review up, it is as good if not better than the Schulze U-Force 75 ESC. Now the set-up part I feel is tricky, but Dereck fiqured it out and you should talk to or have him help you set it up. I don't think the 380 9 turn motor that is a 2 pole will be as smooth as a sensored Novak GTB 6.5, but it will have more power. I know they are $100 more, but I would get the Plettenberg Extreme motor for you're 2wd buggy and if you get a 4wd buggy go with the Pletteneberg Shadow motor.

I am not sure, but I think Jamie is out of the country since I left a message for him to call me too.

See you today at CRCC!

Awesome. Thanks for the info Tim. Looks like I'm not going to make it today but I'll see you guys next week. I'll probably make Wed night, and definately make the points race next Sunday.
