My brother has a Savage .21 that he just installed a Rotostart on to. While trying start the engine it popped the one way bearing. After a short trip to the LHS it popped a second and then a thrid!

We have sealed the Rotostart and there was no fuel or oil in the housing. Why in the hell is it popping these bearings? Is there anything we can do to bypass using a bearing? Also, is there a starter system, such as the one found on the Tmaxx 2.5 or terrra TNX that we can replace the Rotostart with? At 15 bucks a shot he is getting kind of tired of replacing the damn things.

If they are popping like that something is wrong

one thing you can try is loosen the glow plug some before you crank it then when it starts tighten it back

but most of the time the problem is the holding of the Rotostart button to long it should only be about 3 seconds on and off

oh and the Traxxas oneway for the T-maxx is the same as the Savage and a few dollars cheaper

if your blowing bearings liek that then you might be cranking it to much and flooding it

Are you priming it before you start it? If you are, but sure to bring fuel just to the carb, no more. If you are over priming it, that can kill the OWB, having too much fuel in the combustion chamber.

If you're not priming it, then you are for sure running the starter too long. Try loosening teh glow plug, that works. Just don't forget to retighten it.

sounds like flooding to me too... I would do as the guys said above. If it is newer engine that is still a little tight, try warming the engine with a hairdryer before starting.

Thanks for the information. After it fried the second OWB we stopped using the rotostart and went to using a power drill. I believe you're correct when you mentioned that it might be hydrolocking. We'll try loosing up the glowplug a little to bleed off some pressure. I am just suprised that these OWBs are that weak to have popped like this. I kind of wonder if you cannot find them at a hardware store for less?

don't use a drill. use the starter . you need to change the shaft that the owb is on . put a new shaft and owb .the drill will kill the owb faster than the starter will

I tried the Traxxas bearing and it didn't last 1 minute.I ran my last s-25 on the same one-way bearing for over 4 gallons and it still worked great when I sold it..

I've never heard of anyone finding OWBs on a local level. There was someone who went to the trouble and located the manufacturer for the OWBs that were going out quickly on the original 27Piccos engines, but they were German manufactured and not that much cheaper - none cheaper with shipping added in.

If you do find a cheap, diff source for them somewhere, post back for sure!
