I have several shops within 35 miles of me and
I try to buy a few items from each, when I need
things. I bought my son a savage 25 rtr in November
of 2004 for his tenth birthday. In the past 13 months
I've bought many hop ups and spare parts from
two shops. He started to race at a local track this
summer and was getting good but track is closed for
the season now. Anyway to the point , by going to
a local hobby shop, the owners got to know me and
I got good deals on parts. The icing on the cake came
today. I've been wanting my own truck so today I
bought a savage 25 limited edition brand new for
$425 out the door. I am very happy. But I'll need
new stuff for my truck. Find a hobby shop you like
and get to know them, it may payoff.

I agree 100%. You can't beat a lhs when it comes to getting parts quicly and getting discounts for being a regular customer. Plus the fact that you can go to a shop and talk about rc stuff with the people that work there is priceless. I feel sorry for the hobbiests that don't have a good shop to go to. They're stuck buying everything on-line.

$425? DAMN! You must be a helluva customer, and/or they must be a helluva shop. Either they bought a ton of the things and got an insane deal on them, or that guy sold it to you for less than he paid for it. LE's are expensive because the shops pay a ton for them. It's obscene how little we (I work in a hobby shop) make on those things. Margin on the LE's is as bad as it gets if we want to sell it at a competitive price.
Anyways...enough about the ridiculous price the guy gave you. Good job supporting the local shop! Contrary to what many people on these 'boards think, local hobby shops (the good ones at least) are a HUGE part of the hobby.

What's different about the Savage 25 Limited Edition?
Does it have anything the 4.6 SS doesn't have, other than the 3-speed?

I hate it when people do that this one time I had to buy new plugs and wheel nuts they sold me ones for the savage and they work in all but the nuts lock and I cant get them off , and the wire doesnt fit all the way on plug .
And racing I think they have a different engine than the regular 25 .

When I bought my son a savage in 2004 it was a standard 25 rtr.
I paid $430 dollars just for the truck. I then had to buy all the stuff you need to get started in this hobby. Then I became fascinated with the savage and started buying hop ups and up grades. I ported and polished the motor , bought a THS pipe, a motorsaver air filter, a very high torque servo for the steering, 3 speed, reverse , spider gear upgrade , dual disk brakes, center skid plate, fuel filter, and so on. With my sons savage , the only time I drive it was for tuning or testing new upgrades. I have over $1300 dollars invested in his truck including the cost of the truck. I spent that money at two shops. With my own savage I'll be buying some of the same upgrades and hop ups. I'll probably do all my parts buying from the shop that gave me the deal. Also I did ask the owner at least 5 times,Are you sure the is the right price?
Also when I'm in that hobby shop I have helped other customers
with problems and help them pick out parts and accessarys.
I am not employed there, I just hang out from time to time when I go in for parts. I'll drive the 23 or so miles just for air filter oil so I can check out whats new and say hello to the owner or whom ever is working. This hobby is sucking the money from my pocket faster that Ted Kennedy sucks down booze and spews out lies. Here is a picture after installing the 3 speed and reverse and a good cleaning.

All the hobby shops i have dealt with suck the guy that is at my closest hobby shop was fired from the other one i sometimes visit for poor customer service. When i got my buggy one of the guys told me the wrong way to start it and i broke the pull start, i went back and got another one and they put a .21 pullstart on there instead of a .21 . anyway i took it back coz i still couldn't start it anyway the younger guy that got fired helped me start it anyway i got home and the 12 pull start that the fat guy put on it only worked for a few tanks so i rang up and spoe to the young guy and said " can i bring my car back in and you fix it "? and he said " no u ned to fix it i couldn't be bothered to fix it " and my mum rang back and the young guy blamed it on the fat old guy any way they are both a holes and there has ben about id say 7 or 8 more times this stuff has happened .

Wow, you got a good deal. My LHS had a bunch of them before Christmas for $900cdn. My LHS has some good deals, but mostly they charge and arm and a leg for stuff. :(
I used to get family discount at my old LHS (15%). They helped me out alot. :o
I was going to stop by Eliminator RC when I was in Steinbach, but never got around to it.

I have a little local shop here but , every thing is way over priced , revo 600$ , CEN genisis limited ed . 800$ ( dont know if that is a good deal ), I say to myself *** why is every thing so high , so I just go to the one i eugene or portland , then in eugene the prices are beter like revo 500$ and the LE savage is like 550$ , but I would rather go all the way to paortland ( about 145 miles ) to get a 20% discount on stuff , and that equals to like revo 402$ and a savage ( doesnt matter which one to them ) is about 450$ so , it is much better in northern oregon .

the lhs i go to (cruizin with rc's) has always heped me out when i first came there with my cen :0. even though they dont really do stuff with cens they were able to put it back together and then i sold it. They also helped me with my mini t. Because they helped me so much i bought my mgt 4.6 from them. For 400 dolars i thought it was a good deal. And it felt so much better to buy it at the lhs and walk out with it

Well why dont you put the parts on it , then wrap the cooling head in foil ( to keep it at correct temp ) break it in , tune it , then stop or drive it do what ever I drove mine today after the rain , now I have lots of clean to do .

Installed new steering servo, hump pack, and on/off
switch with charging jack. Also swapped the old steering
servo into the brake/throttle spot and I also put the old
brake/throttle servo in radio box for reverse. Next project
will be installing reverse module. After that I'll probably
remove front and rear diffs and flush out the grease
and fill with silicon oil. And after that I'll bla bla bla
and on and on ect. ect.

Back on January 22 It was 63 degrees here in New Jersey
so I finally broke in my L.E. I did have to put a sock on cooling
head to get temp up though. I did the heat cycle method from RBmods.
It took me 3 1/2 hours to do it from start to finish. I did the factory
break in last year for my sons savage and I can see a differance in
my LE and his 25 rtr after break in. Mine is already pulling wheelies
and shifting good also. I'm glad I tried the heat cycle method
for motor break in. A few more tanks and I'll take it apart
for port and polish of the motor.

The LE has just arrived in Australia and the revo cannot be purchased i have been told that it only does 46 kmh with a quick break in and it will get a bit faster but not much is it really this slow? If it isn't i will most likely buy one. My lhs will be getting them in next week. Trent

Also does the LE have the hard to access radio box coz if it does i will be annoyed coz i use alkalines and even if i did get a stick pack i would need to play around with it all the time. And i don't know how to modify the stick pack so u can cut a hole in the rx box and it still works.

Here is a picture of LE broke in and waiting for me to install new
parts in fotos. JR steering servo is in and fuel filter is installed also.
I need to buy front sway bar and that should do it for now.
Just haven't had time to install all the new parts. I'll also
replace diff grease with diff oil when I install the reverse module.
I also need to tare down and rebuild my sons savage for race season
which is coming up fast. That JR servo part#Z9000t really works
great.

With the rtr savage LE is the steering servo sufficient? I rang my lhs they said it will be around $850 so i will order one soon, apperently it goes about 80 kmh with the nitro 25 star engine thing which is a bit faster than my buggy! I can't wait.

Damn i know it is fast for a savage they are massive but they take a while to wind out with the 3 speed. The guy at my lhs when i fisrt bought my buggy told me it will do about 75 and i broke it in and that is pretty much axactly what it is so i beleive this will go as fast as he said. They are cheaper than revos to :) he didn't know about the rtr with radio gear and everything so i will take a magazine of mine in to show him hopefully tomorrow and have it in a couple of weeks. :D

Well here it is june and I've ported and polished the
nitro star S-25 motor in the LE. I also enlarged the
carb I.D. to 8.2 mm. I also machined a spiral thread
on the inside of the crank shaft to see if it would
draw any more fuel in as engine is running, kind of
like a super charger. I lowered the savage about 3/8"
with spacers in shocks. I put 30,000 wt diff oil
in both front and rear diffs. Shocks now have 25 wt
silicone oil in the rear and 30 wt in the front. All the
parts I have in the pictures above are now on the savage.
I have the LE built up almost the same as my 11 year old
sons 25 RTR, which is far from stock. He races his on
weekends at a local track here in NJ. I must say with the ported
motor the darn thing is fast, My son thinks his will beat mine.
We'll have to see about that this weekend. Here is a picture
of my LE with my sons old 25 RTR body on it.
I like the red/orange color of the RTR body because its
easyer for my old eyes to see it. There are some spare parts
in the picture also.

Well if you read hte first page i say how bad my LHS is well they have done it again. I dropped it off to them coz it needed a new rear diff (gears were gone) and i had to go out that weekend so i couldn't do it, Anyway i get it back and the gears go in a few minutes i take it back and get them to do it for free it happens again so i order my diff parts and for 2 plastic diff cups (they only come in sets) the gear set and some shims and diff oil it comes to 70 AUD so im pretty angry and i start to take my sav apart. I get to the diff and open it up and tip all the gears onto the table, NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM OR THE CUP!!!!!!!!!! it is the way the guy at my LHS assembled it that it wasn't working so i put it back together (still running with stock grease so theres not allot in there) and i took it into my garage for a test run today (it was raining outside) and what do u know it runs like a charm (i still idled it and babied it for a few minutes to work the gears in again just to make sure) then i give it to it and on extremely slipperry dusty cement my fronts were still getting a bit off the ground and i was drifting. NEVER again will i let them work on my cars.
