As a jaded rally fan, I've been contemplating ways to make piles of cash so's I can follow my passion worldwide (where ever there is a WRC race).
I'm dissapointed in the lack of stateside enthusiasm. And now it seems as though The Speed Channel has discontinued any coverage at all.
I've come across pockets of folks who enjoy the SCCA offerings, but that too is on a small scale.
In this NASCAR dominated world of racing, I hope we won't see the complete dissapearance of other great forms of racing in the genre.
Especially, rallying! Man, I thought that since I've seen references to off-roading in adverts from Mitsubishi, Suburu, etc., that people's interest in rallying was starting to develop.
Sadly, I may be mistaken.

well think about it. HOw much rally teams are in for 06? like 3 right? Hmm. So is it worth the multi-million dollar operation to tape 3 cars, or should we drop coverage and spend that money in a more " stateside" sport

WOW I never saw it that way! It's not like speed's near 18 hour coverage plus fox sports AND network TV is enough, they should show more Nascrap.
I mean if they don't have full time coverage we may miss Tony Stewart or JR. taking a dump. We don't want to miss that now do we?

12,000 huh?
Problem is, that is just about everybody that watched WRC in the US. Public Access TV has better ratings.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the old Speedvision before it got bought out by the NASCAR monster. European Touring Cars, DTM, Australian V8 Supercars, WRC... Hell, I even liked those crazy Brits racing lawnmowers.
But ratings rule, and there are millions of fans that would watch if Speed televised Jr's trips to the can. There are fans of racing, and then there are NASCAR fans. Half the NASCAR knuckleheads don't know or care about racing -- they're in it for the spectacle and the personalities and the branding. But face it, the networks don't care how knowledgeable its audience is -- they are in the business of counting eyeballs, pure and simple.

I try not to. Ignorant people give me the willies.
