The IMPBA straightaway and oval course records are held by an Insane Cat with an M&D modified Zenoah 260. He did 77+ mph two way average on the straightaway.

A month before that, the IMPBA straightaway record was set at 75+ mph with an Aeromarine Sprint Cat and a Butch-the-Boatman Zenoah 260. That boat only made a few passes and probably would have done better with some additional tweaking and more tries on the clock.

Both boats are good in the corners. I think the Insane is better in rough water.

The Aeromarine Avenger Pro is also fast, handles well, and can run hard in the worse race water.

Suggestions:
If you are new to Cats, start with an old fast model like the Aeromarine Jessee James with a Zenoah modified G-260PUM and use a 1/4 inch flex cable, Speedmaster rudder & strut, and play with a couple of props.
Then jump into the Aeromarine Coquest 44". Great Cat.
Do not buy Aeromarine hardware! If you want a fast and stable boat you will not get it by buying the boat and the full kit from Aeromarine. You need to modify its components. Check some pictures.
I am in the process of finishing a used Aeromarine Jessee James 42" and found that the experience of building it and having someone else who knows what it is all about, is the right way to do this.
Soon I will start building another Cat hull just bought from Aeromarine. I feel very confident in making minimal mistakes in building the new hull- Aeromarine Conquest 44".
hope this helps.

One other choice would be the Seaducer Cat. It's a love it or hate it in the looks department but there is no doubt as to how it handles in the rough water. I've seen one race in lousy conditions and the owner was winning with it not only on the oval but also won in the offshore class against monos!
