My 1/50 scale tugboat needs a searchlight, it must hold a 3mm white led. I'd like to build it from scratch.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Ideas in what way? As in wiring, or construction? You want it r/c as well?

No wiring doubts at all, I just need some ideas on how to build the searchlight, the spotlight, the bulb housing. Here in my country scale fittings are hard to get.
Thanks

hmmmm...how about a Radio Shack LED holder, fitted into some kind of modified fancy nut from a hardware store used for furniture? Just a thought. There must be something out there to modify to make it look good, and cheap as well.

my creole queen plans call for a brass ring for the outer body of the light. Depending on the diameter you need a small pocket flashlight can provide a good reflector and lense.

I used a small keychain light with a superbright LED to make a searchlight. The reflector and LED came out and were eaily converted. Used brass metallic spray paint onthe housing. Bracket is from scrap styrene. No lens - was too bulky.
Used this on a 1/48 scale tug. See pic.

Here is the light I started with. Bought 2 for $5.
