Why don't these big companies like traxxas, kyosho, hpi, xxx make an comerical in big cites like NYC Las vegas you know BIG CITIES so that rc becomes more popular and to attract more people like kids ages 13-80 you know like a jato ripping up the earth and t-maxx kicking and try to put ads in really popular magazines and wrestling put an commerical it will really attrct people becouse not alot of people know about this hobby and will really be excited and think about it their parents will want to but becouse you never know they might get off the couch stop playing vid games and start using a wrench no what i mean :D :D :D
P.S If these companies try out my idea rc WILLL BE A HUGE THING!!  and the benifit there will be more demand for tracks and eventually kids, adults wil make their own tracks to play :D :D :D :D :D :D

This all would depend on how much money these companies have to spend on promoting their products. I don't know if they are willing to spend millions of dollars (especially in a big city it's outrageously expensive) on a commercial.
It would be really nice if RC was more popular, but I just don't see this kind of thing happening too soon in the future.
I'm sure companies considered this, their reasoning for choosing not to may be different, but as far as I know, most choose different methods of advertising their products.

They should just team up with a bigger company like tyco or hot wheels and make a fast car that is more affordable for the general public.

put an commerical it will really attrct people becouse not alot of people know about this hobby
I dunno, I think the advert would just become laughing stock; "look at those grown men playing with those little toy cars"... No matter how impressive it is (unless its a 'petrol Subaru that goes 70mph and cost £50'...lol)

Holy Crap that's the longest sentence I have ever seen, but yeah it would be cool to see a RC commercial.

I think companies have definitly thought about this kind of thing, and decided not to; considering there are no commercials, or none that I have seen, they have reasons for not making any.
I'd say it would be cool to see a commercial, but Duane's right - that sort of thing can happen

a 30 second tv commercial costs sumwhere in the 2-3 million dollar range minimum, just to make... then u need to sell it to companies to show..... for the 2-3 million they could just advertise to the ppl they want for 2-3 years.....

I have seen rc commercials during that rc show on the outdoor channel.
make a commercial...... as opposed to sponsoring a $150,000 race truck that get's a 30 minute spot on SPEED channel every day targeting their intended audience?
Don't major in marketing ;)

The commercials would be a great way to get people to buy an rc car then leave the hobby when they can't maintain it or keep it running. This hobby requires new people to learn a lot of stuff in order to run the car; commercializing it more would get more people to buy into a hobby that isn't for them. (Visit a LHS that does repairs and you'll see what I'm talking about.)

I'm going to have to agree with this one. Generally Traxxas annoys the hell out of me, but they do have far and away the best advertising department in r/c.

HPI's monster truck is a joke, and a waste of money IMO. The race team on the other hand...that's badass.

RC hobby is still an underground thang ha ha ha not mainstream YET...
I bet you if you mentioned traxxas, hpi, associated, etc.. hardly no one would know them and what they do, but mention mattell, tyco, new bright, folks will light up and say how their kids have them toys.

LOL, you couldn't be more wrong (not to be rude). You may be refering to high end Super Bowl commercials, but standard 30 sec commercials cost FAR less than that. Our dealership (Henry Day Ford) puts on commercials all the time. They're about $100,000 give or take $15k depending on air times (You get a package deal with different channels that include multiple air times), that includes filming and the whole works.
When you consider cost vs gain, they can be very cost effective.
I have also wondered why I don't see RC commercials. I think the TMAXX monster truck (the 1:1 scale) is a big step and if anyone watches Monster Jam, they know that the TMAXX gets plenty of exposure with multiple referals to the RC truck it was modeled after by the commentators.
I personally feel that the lack of publicity does effect the way RC's are viewed by the public. The only real exposure the average person gets to RC's of any kind is either their own kid has one, or they see the kids in their neighborhood playing with them. Then the only common place they've seen them for sale is super stores like WalMart and Target... In the toy section.
But, you get any nitro RC car in front of any adult (okay, men mostly), and they're excited as hell about them because they didn't know "they" even made something like that. Does that make sense?
I think RC commercials by the big boys (Traxxas, Ofna, Losi, HPI, etc) would do amazing things for our hobby. RC tracks would become more common, as well as Hobby stores. People would start to identify them as being more of a hobby, than simply a toy.
The first time I brought one of my nitro cars to my work was like I just brought the Dallas cheerleaders and they were doing a routine in the parking lot. Everyone was intrigued, now half the guys in my shop own one or more. It's infective and addicting... And fun.
Anyway, there's my .02.

advertising aint cheap. media buy's alone just for interactive are about $250k, broadcast is about 10mill for they average motion buy, and print is about 1mill for only newspapers.
so, the only company that can come close to a media buy like that is nike. haha. rc is small time.

here is the way I see it, given ford(and/or other 1:1 scale car companies) makes alot of commercials, but they don't usually pay for them to be aired(atleast not most of them) at the end of most of their commercials, you will see the adress for the local car sales lot.
I would venture to say it would be that way here to, hobbyshops are the one that producers are trying to sell product to, so they aren't gonna put adds on tv to try to get hobbyshop owners attention, they will put ads in mags about r/c the the owners are more likely to see, and then once the hobbyshop has the product, then its up to them to advertise to THEIR customers the the general public, the only thing is that most hobbyshop are small operations that can't afford to pay big money for a tv ad, although when I visit my grandparents in pensacola florida, I do see commercials for at least one hobby shop down there but it is a bigger one that can afford it easier.

Very true, do you guys realize what kind of margins hobby shops operate on? Its pretty sad! I've considered opening a hobby shop before, and you really have to move alot of product to be able to just pay the stores bills. I don't think to many hobby shops can afford to do alot of advertising, sponsoring the local track/club is what most hobby shops do, as well as adds in the local newspaper.
I think the kind of exposure RC gets from things like monster truck shows and such works really well, and the big companies need to work on expanding those kinds of operations, where people actually see the trucks in action first hand.
