I have a chance to get a picco .26 with the purple head for a really good price.
How easy is this engine to tune?
Is it smart to buy a discountined motor?/ what parts are compatibly?
also what kinda of problems does the engine have?
and of course how well does it preform?
Thanks

Picco .26's are AWESOME motors. Insane power, fairly easy to tune, rock solid reliability, etc. I wouldn't suggest picking it up used because I never suggest that, but if it's new, I'd get it for sure.

Nope, the Picco .27 (just barely discontinued) and the Picco .28 (just barely introduced) are basically the exact same engine. I think they have slightly revised porting...but other than that, they're the same, and the parts are interchangeable between all 3 of them as far as I know. I've sold Picco .27 piston/sleeve combos to people and they put them in their .26 without a problem. I would imagine the .28 would be the same way. The pull-starts, one-ways, crankcase, carb, etc is all the same. Definately buy the Picco over the Mach or the SH...the Picco is a FAR better engine.

The picco .26 is a very powerful engine, but unfortunately, I had one of the first ones made, and it was a complete pain. It was the reason I almost dropped out of R/C. They got much better after that initial run. I say go for it.

Nope. One-way bearings are only for pull-start equipped engines. The bump-start only version won't have a one-way.

Hi Guys, I need help. I am trying to break in my engine today. I noticed the idle speed i s way off. All the wheels are moving and wants to run when I tried to put it down in the pavement. How will I tune it? Thanks.

1st check ur radio settings, see if ur throttle servo is centered..now that ur radio gears are all centered see if the idle is still off.. then u can adjust ur idle needle from there..while ur adjusting ur idle needle u should see the carb moving either its closing or opening..open it up around 2mm or enough for a tip of pencil to go thru..youll see what im talkin about..

With the Picco engines you must always check the factory setting before you begin break-in. I guess that you should start by getting the Idle down so that the wheels just barely turn or don't turn at all. Once on the ground, use the five tank break-in described in the instructions. I wouldn't tune it much until after the first tank.

thanks you. but I end up replacing the whole carb because I ruin the old one. How would I know if it is on the factory setting?

You simply refer to your owner's manual or the OFNA Picco web site (ofna.com) and there will be instructions on how to return your needles to a factory setting. This is almost always in terms of so-many turns out from fully closed. If you replace your Picco carb with some other make of carb you will need the owner's manual from the engine that the carb typically sold with. Again, all settings will be so-many turn out from fully closed.
