I have the same problem. It seems to have happened during the first few tanks and has stopped now. Tire shavings?

It's the factory clutch shoes. It seems to happen on pretty much every Warhead. Our shop's demo one did the same thing. I'd buy the HPI 3 shoe flywheel and some quality aluminum shoes, slap them on, and call it a day.

Metal is right, it is the clutch shoes. I have one that did the same thing. Though you can run it with the factory shoes, and many have without having any troubles, I would also recommend the Savage setup. I run the factory HPI three shoe on my truck without any troubles and it is a direct fit on to the Tiger. Note, that if you do go with this setup you cannot use a starter box has the Savage flywheel is a lot smaller.

After doing some research I did three things to mine before I even started it. First was to replace the servo saver with an alloy one. Second was to do the three shoe HPI install. The last was to install an Ofna roto start (they have a 45* setup that fits and requires no drilling to the stock frame). I run mine nearly every other day and even though it is only two months old I have 2 gallons through it and it runs outstanding. The engine was easy to tune and seems to be holding up very nicely. Though not has fast on the straights because it can be setup so many different ways it can out run my Savage and T-Maxx around the track. When you get it setup it plan out handles both. It is also an excellent basher, making insane jumps without so much as coughing up a single broken part.

if you use an ofna flywheel and 3 shoe setup can you use the starter box. my pull rope just konked out on me and i dont wanna have to take the motor back out and all that jazz to put another recoil on it and i also dont want to have to buy a roto start and drill

The Ofna roto start that I spoke of doesn't use a drill rather it uses an Ofna hand starter much like the Savage. I have also seen the Tiger Drive used but this requires that you drill a 1/2" hole in the side and use a Losi starter drive as it turns in a clockwise rotation. When you conceder that a pull start runs 15.00 plus shipping and the Ofna system runs 35.00 and that includes the hand drive the Ofna makes sense.

i wanna know if i can just use a starter box and not have to change out the recoil thing at all. the warhead is set up to use a starter box but is the ofna flywheel too small?

No, it is not to small. I have seen a couple of them in use with success. The only reason I advocate the hand starter is that they are a lot cheaper, smaller, and eaiser to use then a starter box. If you are going to use a starter box I would recommend that you go to http://www.warheadmt.com/downloads/dtxd68-addendum3.pdf it will talk you through setting up a starter box for the Warhead.

Dad-to-a-Marine;
Where did you get the alloy servo saver at? Also, would you recommend this truck to a beginner with the problems it has, since the fixes for it can be a bit intimidating for a noob to tackle? We've sold a couple of them here at the store, but I tend to steer the newbies away from it and towards a Savage, Revo or MGT until Duratrax straightens it out. Later!

I bought the servo saver here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=44028&item=6043430169

He had 7 left when I bought mine. You might be able to contact him to see if he has any more. I guess I would have to know the mechanical skill level of the person. I am still a "newbie" having only been in the hobby for about 4 months, but my mechanical skill level would fall in the advance category. I bought the Warhead so I would have something to bench mark against my Savage 25 and because it was different. You have to admit that it has a great warranty. How many other companies that send a new truck out for what is basically beta testing offered one even close to the Warhead’s? Now that the weather is getting nice I plan on bashing the hell out of it. If it cannot take it I'll be the first to let ya know.
