View Full Version : Truggy... what's the best bang for the buck?

I've got a Revo but have been eying a truggy for a second rig. I'm mostly a basher, but would race it from time to time. I want to stay south of $600 bucks. I've never had good luck with first release HPI products so I'm staying away from the Hellfire. It's down to the Ofna or Thunder Tiger. What do you guys think?

I would get the Jammin truggy, its great for racing. I was also eying the ofna, mainly because of price, but my LHS owner said that I would be better off with the Jammin.

I have a Revo and a Jammin. I wouldn't get rid of either one :) Both are awesome. The Jammin is getting super popular and is probably the #1 truggy (or soon will be). I'm guessing, but that's how I see it.

I've heard that the Jammin truggy is super tough and can handle a good bashing. The Blazer SST is also really tough and there is alot of parts available for it.

4DMNYC ... here a Blazer SST derivitive on Steroids :-)
Tazer ST [Stunt Truck] Purpose built BASH Weapon ....
all the frailty of the Blazer KingPin suspension - GONE. Same great gearing ... longer chassis, wider more stable stance, greater travel Up and down, greater On Power Steering - this chassis allows you to put Big Block power to the ground and not squirl out !!!!!

4DMNYC .. not the rear wing mount converted into a Body Mount. Our Blazers chassis were taco'd doing backflips - unnacceptable. So we cured it. Note the Stock 9.5 Buggy / Blazer SSt chassis sandwiched between the Tazer St and the Tazer PRT [pro race truggy] 7075 CNC Milled chassis. Note the massive CVA's, and the abscence of the Kingpins ... more pics here:

Badboy-Check out www.amainhobbies.com for ST-1 parts. Ive dealt with them and they are across the country from me. I always get my orders within 5 Biz days.
Denver- Consider the ST-1...it has been sharing wins and podium finishes with the Jammin all over since it first came out. You can check out www.sgrid.com for more info on it. There is a very active TTR S3/ST-1 thread there.

I have a CRT Pro and love it!!! Ofna is also coming out with a basher truggy called the mutilator that is a mbx/ 9.5 hybrid. Goto www.ofna.com and check it out. Id get either of those and you will stay under the 600 mark.
Im a huge Ofna fan and love the hyper series of buggies. Building the CRT it was like rebuilding a hyper. what is different on it, it looks like the hyper 8 is getting. The Jammin is a racer but is tough as nails. The only weak spot is the wing mount but you can upgrade that for a fairly cheap price. Also, Im not a fan of the wing that is included but a buggy proline white wing (or any color) will fix that.
I also own a revo. PCR buggy, CRT truggy, XXX4G+, brushless electric Jato, Nitro Jato, RS4 EVO, and 18t. Im about to pick up a hyper 8 when they come out.
if you have any questions feel free to pm me! More than happy to help any out on a CRT.
Here are some comparison pics....

LOL!!! sure...will you pay for shipping???
I ended up getting a picco ,27 for the crt. that is the only difference. i was going to save the sirio .27 9 port for the hyper 8. but, i didnt realize the track here has a .21 only buggy league. so, that sirio is a spare now. =( really expensive, 10 tanks only, and now just sitting on my closet now! oh well i guess.

Wow, looks like the Ofna and the Revo are about the same size. Being 1/8 scale I thought the Ofna would be bigger.

To be more specific about Dirt Kings post ... The RTR Jammin CRT is a pretty nice truck and every concieveable hop up part needed already exists and is all over ebay.
Ofna has a CRT .. wannabe jr kit coming out called a Mutilator - cross of the CRT and the Blazer SST. We also custom build truggies from 99% all ofna parts thats pretty fun - raceable and bashable - depending on how you config it. Pictures of the basher are up above. Pics of the Tazer PRT race truck are here:
