Hi Gerry,
I love that Staudacher! Each year in October the East Coast aerobatic meet is held here in Farmville, and I feel the twitch to do a Staudacher. I'm glad you see it the same way.
Cheers, Dave
PS A little different from a Deperdussin :-)

Hi Dave, you're doing a great Job here in the forum, I will have to spend more time here! As you can tell, I have a wide interest in scale models. From the Deperdussin to the Staudacher, if it flies I like it!
Here's my version of the 300GS in the bones. it is a joint project with Scale Techniques author George Leu!

Dave, here it is as of last night! I made several of the decals as well as using vinyl from Cajun RC.

PS: by the way, that's not me in the original post photo. That's Mike Goulian, the pilot/owner of the 300GS back in 94 or 95 when the photo was taken!

Hi Gerry,
Man, that is a lovely model. What a shame more people do not build their own models, especially with the quality of your Staudacher. What kind of power have you mounted in it? That is a very nice size.
Since you showed your "bones", I will bare mine. The picture was taken 2/17/06 of my small Deperdussin. The wingspan is 24", and the power will be a Dynamics Unlimited micro brushless BL5-3-36 motor. Controls will be the Microbatics system with the Pin Point servos and narrow band receiver. I pl;an to cover it with red Coverite Coverlite, with single surface on the wings and horizontal tail. You probably have noticed, but there is heavy influence from the Sig kit version.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Jerry, thanks for dropping in. Mike Goulian, I am sure, is just a bit younger than me! I'll be celibrating my 49th trip around the sun on March 14th! Not old enough to be called "OLD" but not exactly a spring chicken either! I figure if you are building models and flying and having a good time doing it, then you ain't too Old! :^) ;)

Oh! My Dave, that is just perfect! You are a speedy designer/builder! I will most certainly have to save some time to build one of these when you get the article and plans finailzed! Simply beautiful! Really reminds me of "Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Machines" movie...

Dave, As for the Staudacher, this is the books that got the whole love afair going! I bought it when I was doing an article on basic aerobatics for MAN and it was love at first sight! The model has a 66 inch span and I am powering it with an OS .61FX 2-stroke. The cowl is big enough to fit a .90 4-stroke easily. George's prototype was powered by a Saito .91 4-stroke.

Gerry, may I inquire as to why you selected a two-stroke over a four-stroker?

Hey Jerry, the basic reason is that I wanted a 66 inch model and I did not have a .90 size 4-stroke available. I have an old Saito 91 4S but it has a bad bearing. I have several 120 4S engines, but they would be too much for the plane size.
The OS .61FX is a good sport engine and I had it available. Even already broken in. The model by the way, has an engine box mount design. The box structure goes through the firewall and ties in to former F2. You can adjust the length of the box to suit your engine length!

PS: I guess I am too cheap to buy a new engine! ;)

Broken in? Heck, it looks pretty new to me! :)

Broken in yes, broken, no! Has not hit the dirt yet so is still pretty new looking. That Slimline muffler did not work out anyway. Will be making an internal muffler out of some aluminum tubes and a mousse can!

Here's the 3-view the construction plans originated from. The construction article should be in the February 2007 issue of MAN!
