Hi,
Is there anyway of getting an evolution .61 into the h9 p-40 without having to cut a hole in the side.
I was thinking about getting a j-tec upright/inverted muffler but wasn't sure if they muffle anything

Sounds like it is do-able but you are correct, some of those older design J-Tec mufflers are more like exhaust divertors.

is there any muffler you would recommend to keep it inside the cowl

Although rather expensive, you might want to check out Keleo Creations at: http://keleo-creations.com/index.html
I don't know of any other "standard" muffler that will keep you inside the cowl. Also try the internal canitser mufflers from Great Planes. They might work.

Check out the following link and see what I did with their P-47 which used the stock muffler.

Great Technique Jerry! Will have to remember that one for my Staudacher. I will have to make a mousse can muffler for it or get one made. Will see if I can squeeze a stock one in with a firewall trim job!
