Hi,
I picked this boat up from ebay for $130.00
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/Dartman1074/Picture038.jpg
It has a K&B 3.5cc outboard the first time I used it It would run on land great as soon as I put it in the water it shut off way to rich got it going and it moved pretty good. I was wondering what I could do to make it run a little faster and also it spins out really easy and this leads into water in the carb and it shutting down.. Thank You for all the help you guys might be able to give me.. Also in the works will be a new paint job boy does it need it...

welcome to the world of boating, and congrats on getting a boat from ebay that does actually run :)
As far as getting it faster, look into getting another prop for it (must be balanced/sharpened before running). As for it spinning out... cant help ya, dont have any experience with outboards. Might wanna check out the tunnel section on intlwaters.com, lots of outboard guys over there.

I'm surprised also that it runs, that boat has got to be around 25 years old or more! It's an old Dumas hull with the antique K&B. Lots of luck finding parts for that thing, especially lower unit parts. The motor mount is a Prather. It looks like it could use to be tilted up a couple of degrees. The short skeg on the lower unit may be part of the problem plus the tilt. You want the hull to ride on the last 4" or so of the sponsons at speed.

Thank You for your help I will try tilting the motor up some I thought it looked kinda low and I found a few web site's where I can get parts here they are. http://www.mecoa.com/kb/marine/marine_outboard.htm

I knew it was an older boat I just figured it would be a good start for the money Its pretty fast as it is but would mind making it a little faster I am also thinking about buying the top speed 2 but Im not sure if its fiberglass or not and putting the motor I have on it till I can get the money up for a new motor..
Thank You Again..

Yes, the Top Speed 2 is a 'glas boat and a very good buy for the price. As for your engine, the powerhead can be saved and there still are some parts available yet for that, it's just the finding parts for the lower unit are getting hard to find. It's no problem really as the newer lower units will bolt right up to your powerhead.

With the older engine, I'd try the Octura X-437 or X-438 props. A Prather 215 seems to work well also.

I looked today and it has a Octura X-440 is that ok or is it too big ? Also Friday on my way to work I am going to buy the TopSpeed 2 :)).. I noticed a few more cracks in the old haul. I also want to look into a tuned pipe I guess ebay would be the way to go for the older motor ?

I just picked this boat up and I am going to put my K&B 3.5cc on it. I am also thinking about water sanding it and giving it a new paint job the white is kinda bright and thats the only color they had here are a few pic's

Don't knock white as it will be more visible on the water. The downside is that it shows every grease and oil spot really well.
Finding a tuned pipe is no big deal as the K&B 3.5 block really hasn't changed much in over 27 years, the lower unit is going to be one thing that you should replace first before thinking about a pipe. It's going to have to be cut anyway to fit a tuned pipe so you might want to take a look at the Irwin composite lower unit. Fuller's Fast Electric's is selling them. Don't sweat the electric thing as it is made for the K&B powerhead, the electric people are the ones that have to do the converting work.
An Octura X-440 or Prather 215 are the largest that will fit under the cavitation plate but I'm thinking that the old motor might not have the power of the newer ones so that is why I recommended the smaller props.

Well, the boat ran good today all though I think it ran in the high 30's maybe 36 to 38. I would like to see 40 to 45 someday. I was going to take pics of it running but forgot the camera. :D
