View Full Version : How Much Have You Spent On You Favorite RC?

I had an Xmods (haha) before and i spent about $200 on a car and sold it because i found out thats how much Nitros range.
I spent around $450 for my HPI MT2 18ss total with all the hop ups i wanted.
i want to have another RC but i rather not. I like to just stick with one car. Focus on one car feels alot stressful.

i hate it when your saving up for a upgrade and then you break some parts and need more money lol

To answer the original question, "Thousands". I've got about 8 planes and 3 helis plus one current electric (LST Mini) plus a couple of old electric cars plus some other electric planes. If you figure a basic Heli including radio and everything is around $1,500 you start to get an idea.

I've probably spent $2000 or upwards. Which to most people doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm 14. That is a ton of money for someone my age. I made all this money my self. I work hard for my RCs!

I'm not in the same category as the others who spend a $1000 hopping up an RC. But i've spent couple hundred maybe around $200-250 in upgrades for my favorite RC. RC is expensive

about $3000 in kits, $1300 in electronics and about $5000 in engines over the last 7 years.
1 kit each year, 3 engines per season, on my second radio setup and have only burnt up 2 air 358's.

I'd say about $1,350 over two years in my b4 and i'm gonna get a $450+ brushless system and battery and charger soon.

I hate to admit it, but with 28 rc vehicles, extra engines, pipes, chassis, tires,so on and so on, I added it up about 2 months ago, and I was close to $18,500.00.
It does not take long when you have this much. Right now I have 43 bodies,4 starter boxes, countless rc crystals<even though I use the M11 with a Spektrum>close to 60 sets of tires.
I think its time for an RC garage sale!
adrianderekluna
03-15-2006, 08:17 PM
haha, yeah those crystals will get you. i did the math on that and was like, geeeeez man, why the hell didn't i just get a spektrum.
brc358
03-15-2006, 08:29 PM
I do have the Spektrum now. These crystals are left over from before the Spektrum system came out.
I have the Spektrum system in about 12 or 13 cars right now. In the other vehicles, they are set-up with either the MX3, or a Futaba radio.
I only use the Spektrum system in the vehicles that I drive during the week, and during the weekend races

I easily have over $1,000 in my B4. It's about $600 with just chassis and electronics. Then I have a hole bunch of other $h!t for it so it all adds up. I'm getting my old T3 back in a couple of weeks and I'm gonna have to spend prolly a $100 or so dollars on it.

I don't even want to figure out how much I have spent on my rc stuff. It's gotta be 10s of thousands... If you think about my FT TC4, 350 for the kit, then another 300 for electronics, plus tires, motors, etc. I bet at least $1,000 in just that car alone. At least my Revo is still stock.

grand total on rc since day 1? 8 grand atleast
on my e-maxx right now, which is my favourite, about 600 or so, and its only going to get more expensive lol

In the last 4 years its something like this:
NMT-$2500
NMT2- about a $1000
RS4 3-between $800-$1000
SNR- $200
This is between me being 14-18 years old. I have no idea how much I have spent on gas, but I kept all the tags that come on my r/c aftermarket parts, which fills my entire draw, and I can take a pic if someone wants it.

Well, I've gone through and added up all the kits I've had in recent memory about a month and a half ago, and I've about decided that I think I'm gonna get out of this damned hobby,
currently
Racer 2 - $1360 with $400 in custom bodies
K3 buggy - $1430 including the m8 and spektrum and 358 servos, and the personal trans.
Savage - $900
Junkyard dog mean Revo - $600
recently,
Storm SUT - $500
Storm Pro buggy - $400
Duratrax Axis - $75
Mugen Prospec - $950
BB Maxx - $545
JT Havoc hybrid chassis truck - $605
Brushless RC18T - $300
2 Mini T's, both junk - $200
PRP Swift - $150
Savage 25 - $440
LST - $720
NMT BB truck - $800
NMT racer - $339
NRS4 - $500
Racer 2 - $421
That's just a tick over $10K. and that doesn't include backup engines for the Buggie nor does it count replacement parts and such. Not to mention extra tires and wheels, and support gear ie chargers, tent, starter boxes, glow plugs, tool boxes.
I added up $1428 in the last 2 years at tower hobbies, with no kits being bought.

It's incredible how much money you can spend and not even realise it! I've spent over £1000 (around $1700) on my Wild Dagger in total (including spare parts, consumables, parts that I've bought and ended up not using, etc...tho the bulk is modifications and upgrades). The scary thing is that it isn't even truly "finished" yet!

I've got thousands wrapped up in the hobby. My problem is that I'll buy a particular buggy/truck, mod the hell out of it, keep it a few months, MAYBE run it once or twice, then sell it. So I lose alot of money that way.
In the past year alone (12 months), I've had; 2 LSTs, 2 GS SUT Pros, Revo, JATO, 4 RC18Ts, RC18MT, MGT, 2 T-Maxxes, Mini LST, and a Sportwerks Mayhem Pro.
Right now I've got; an MBX-5 with Fioroni options through-out with a Top P5 in it, a MBX-5 Prospec with an OS V-spec, HB LSP-R with King Headz mods and an LRP Z2.8R, a Cen Genesis, PTI Goliath, Xray M18T NIB, and my wife just bought me an HPI Hellfire for which I have CF parts coming. I keep a Picco P7 in reserve, tons of spares, DSM in 90% of my RCs, probably 10 or 12 sets of buggy tires/rims new.
Geez, don't let my wife see this!!!!

"Geez, don't let my wife see this"!
Boy, that's the truth!! It's best they never find out!!
Tip:
If you buy a new truck, remove it from the box (pitch box) and spray the engine area with a small amount of fuel. Find some loose dirt and run the truck/tires across it a few times by hand, enough to get the tires dirty. This will also stir up enough dust to make the engine look used. When you bring it home, tell wife about the excellent bargain you got on a USED truck. Then tell her after you clean it up it will no doubt look like new again.
This is a proven method of sliding a new truck into the stable under the watchful eyes of wife. ;) :D :D

^^^^ Thats awesome! Thats true, because I remember once I bought a set of four brand new truck tires, and got it mounted on to the truck, and she was like "I bet thats a brand new truck, huh?" I was like: "You crazy"
What about girlfriends??
It seems like everytime I buy new car, parts, or hop-up, my girlfriend just looks at me and says "Whuttt AGain???", but she's cool though. But I know what shes thinking, but I still hide it anyways.

I have not spent that much.
$1600 on the Tmaxx including $800 purchase price, $200 in fuel and $300 for engine.
I had about the same invested in my electric Stampede. I went through many motors, esc's/msc's, diffs, bearings (about $100 worth of those tiny ones :D )
tires and batteries over 5 years.
Just bought a Jato, so that will start adding up once I start running it and breaking stuff

Just remember, if the wife or girlfriend thinks you are getting something used, then they believe THEY have won, because YOU are NOT getting anything that is new.
When you buy anything new, remove it from the package and dirty it up a bit and tell the wife or girlfriend it’s used. Also, very important!!! Don’t leave a paper trail!! Pitch receipts, new boxes, and pay for items with cash. :)
Additionally, continue to move trucks around to different areas (e.g., attack, car trunk, and under tables). This is referred to as the Monster Truck shell game. Do this so an exact count is not possible, keeps them confused and disoriented. It’s like, “now you see it, now you don’t”. :D :D ;)
