Has anyone had experience with these? my stock Savage X gearing is 15/49.
The Robinson setup is 16/48, that will take away some low end grunt and add some top end speed, right? that sounds good to me because right now I'm having problems flipping over backwards out of the hole.

The RR steel gears are fantastic. I run them in three different rc's including a Savage.
Yes the 16/48 will give you more top end then the 15/49.

would I have to worry about stripping trans gears or diffs with this? I was told by LHS that I should keep plastic spur as weakpoint because it's cheap/easy to replace.

Your LHS is right. THe spur is plastic for a reason. If you're constantly melting spurs something is obviously set-up wrong. Adding a steel spur will just transfer the engery someplace else (tranny and diffs) and can cause them to wear. In quite a few gallons of bashing I'm on my third spur. One was a rock, and one was because I didn't thread-lock the motor mount screws. I've never really had one actually wear down on my MGT

I had a steel spur on a T-maxx back when I had that truck...waste of money. For that kind of money you can buy yourself 5 spurs and be set for longer than you'll be running your truck

if your slipper is set correectly you would have nothing to worry about. Proper gear mesh is a must no matter if the spur is steel or plastic.

You are 100% correct PLUS the metal gears are not self lubricating; the nylon ones are. You actually lose efficiency with metal. And while it may not be true with Rob., I was told by an Engineer for a major RC Manufacturer that the nylon gears are manufactured to a tighter spec as well. Enough to keep me in plastic!

Tim

PS The one truck I bought off someone that had metal spur was noisy to the point of being annoying. I pitched them out and bought nylon.

If you are running r/s spur and clutchbell the transmissio in time will fail on you as it was no designed to take this.

If you are just running r/s spur the clutch bell and bearings will eventually fry on you so you have some choices to make.

Also may i ask why people change over to steel spurs anyway i race the savage most weekends within the BNRC,TRUCK NATIONALS,BCL AND MAX BASHING and found no problems with the good old plastic spurs.Providing the meshing is spot on and no hot spots they will last for ages
