any traxxas guys ran across this... my uncle has a new t-maxx and the the basic tq3 radio and such all stock basically. he has a venom failsafe. we were out runnin the radio on truck runnin and lose contact but the failsafe doesnt come on unless you turn the radio off. so im thinking the problem is in the receiver. it will sit there and do nothing but the failsafe isnt engaging like it has lost contact. only need to replace two arms two shock caps and a bulkhead after this little episode

I couldn't say exactly what the problem may be, but I have had mixed results with failsafe units as well. Mine although annoying, fortunately is the reverse problem, it just decided to engage when ever it wants. I use Duratrax failsafes on two different trucks and the both do the same thing.

I am curious though, you said it only engages when you cut the receiver off. Did you try to cut the receiver off when it took off on you, I have had plenty of runaways so I know the obvious doesn't really hit you till it's too late. Nothing is impossible but I doubt it would be the receiver. I usually try to do a distance test with a new truck just to see what it's limits are on new batteries. Just take it slow with someone walking beside and see how far it goes before losing receiver signal. Also try resetting the failsafe and setting it again. If it continues then prolly a bad failsafe...

Just my 2 cents...

i dont know whats going on the failsafe works fine as far as temp and voltage drops. the last runaway was from about 5 feet i almost had it with my foot. this is my uncles truck i myelf have figured out with mine if it does runaway ill turn off my radio and it stops. hes does the same thing but this is weird like the failsafe is reading no signal loss...which i dont thiknthere is a signal loss i think its something else. we did find one bare wire to the reciever from a servo but the wire was not cut thru

5ft? So does it work without the failsafe? I feel if you can test it without the failsafe and it works fine, (obviously your batteries are fully charged/new right?) then the failsafe it probably the culprit... although that being said, I did discover that the receiver switch on one of my trucks is bad, it comes on and then i can just touch it and it will go off or make the failsafe cut on.

Are you sure your batteries are fully charged in receiver and radio as this will also cause the failsafe not to work properly. If the answer is yes then the simple way of testing the truck is disconnect the failsafe then try it preferablly in a enclosed area so it cant go on a runaway. If it works fine then it is down to the failsafe

Sounds like you are loosing power , check Your receiver pack for bad connections , like the tabs between the cells . If You have a bad connection there Your failsafe won`t have power to work .

Well, I disagree ozzgood, because I have a futaba failsafe on my revo and It's doing its job just as supposed to be. You need to program the optidrive and failsafe together, I don't remember how I did it, but that's how I do to get full functions from both.

Just test with low batt if things work properly. ( FYI do that while engine is shut LOL)

this is on a t-maxx there is no optidrive. all batteries were brand new low power was not a problem. i will try to isolate the failsafe to check that but i personally think its something else.

I had the same problem with my T-Maxx. It turned out to be the reciever. The problem was it did the full throttle runaway thing on the first tank and cooked the engine.

Go with the ofna fail safe never had a problem..

.....why would i need an "ofna" failsafe if my failsafe is not the problem.......im very confused everyone says my failsafe is faulty. so faulty failsafe will cause loss of signal?

well there is no way the failsafe is the problem causing a loss of signal the fails safe has no connection to the steering and when this signal glitch occurs you lose steering also. today we went thru everywhere looking for a break and found nothin we taped a bare wire and put everything back together. found a plug that didnt wanna connect tight did a little work on that. took it outside and have had no signal loss yet and failsafe works fine when i shut off radio or walk out of range. well take it to the track tomorrow and put it to the test
