I want a Monster Truck. Ive been into nitro rc's for 6 years and its time for a nitro monster truck. Im basically going to bash around and maybe sometimes race. I looked into all MT...i thought about the LST2, but the guys at my LHS recommened the savage as the most durable truck. I looked at the MGT and Savage X and i basically set my mind on the X.

You shouldn't get one because they suck, they are strong and durable so if your launching it off huge jumps, consecutively then go for one. If, like myself and many more you demand more than just that look elsewhere. They are unreliable, hard to maintain and wrench on, slow, handle like a clown with stilts and did I mention they are hard to work on?

what do you mean they're unreliable?

there's nothing wrong with the savage x, as long as you're not racing
it's very similar to other savages, except that it doens't have a 3-speed tranny
the ground clearence is the same, but everything is mounted lower to get the weight ont he truck lower, making it handle better and a little faster
get the savage x!
the only problem i've heard is that the spur gear strips, which can easily be solved with a steel spur gear

The spur gear is set loose coming from the factory, thats why they strip. All you have to do is adjust the gear mesh.
Fezzy, do you own the Savage X that just came out recently? What do you suggest?

trust me, i wish somebody said this to me, and i don't mean anything by it
but just go with the truck you have your eyes set on
i wanted an x, then i started second guessing it, wanted a maxx 3.3, then the revo 3.3 came out, and now im back to wanting the x and im gonna get one as soon as the price drops, so just go with the x if you're sold on it
i think fezzy is saying that b/c im guessing he races and savages aren't meant to be raced, which i agree with, which is why i'm not racing and im pretty sure you're not either
but good luck and just have fun with it!

I think you should get it. They are tough as HECK! They are very reliable if you now how to keep it maintained. They aren't hard to work on at all, you just need to get familiar with the geometry of the truck. In my opinion Savages are one of the toughest trucks you can buy......I have one and it is amazing at how well it handles abuse!........Just take a look at what the guys from Twisted-Toys do to their Savages!
And they aren't slow at all....

I base my opinions on working with countless Savages on a day to day basis, I work at a hobby shop where we purely push Savages, and I along with my associates have to work on and fix them constantly. I think that qualifys me for my decision, if not the pure and simple fact that I once owned one should be good enough for you.
Don't get one, get something else. Revo, LST2, MGT.. They're all better.

i have come across a few people so far who hate savages. everyone else i know says that they are amazing at being a truck. monsters trucks wern't designed for racing ,nor should they be. a savage is an immense truck, i have had mine for 2 years and havn't broken anything yet. the engine is good, and now i havemade my own dualbrake systemi can lockthe tyres on tarmac. so yeah getone theyare immense for skying the jumps and baskinh to hell.

Out of all the new trucks. I just received the MGT 4.60 for Christmass let me tell you . The MGT. fast and it can take a beating it's my first truck. I would tell every one to buy one .Just stay away from the WARHEAD ....

Personally get the LHS stocks parts for. But I would say your choice would be a good. But don't forget the MGT. A very underrated truck that can handle most things that get in its way.

i was talkin to someone who had a savage 25 for a couple years, and he didn't break ANYTHING on it and he looked to be a pretty bad driver and he did some stupid things with...i think a t-maxx he was running
so the savage x WILL be plenty durable, if you want more speed than just upgrade the exhaust for like $50 and sell the stock pipe on ebay for like $20-30 and then the truck will be fast durable and just friggin amazing
good luck!

Ok, look, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the X, no matter what anyone says, if they DONT OWN ONE, THEIR OPINION DOESN"T COUNT. My friend said this and this guy down the street said that. Bla, Bla, Bla. The X is different than the older savages. It is much easier to work on, I just bought mine a month ago, never had one before, had no idea how to work on it, and RAN IT INTO A LAKE. This thing is awesome, I can't tell you how easy it is to work on and that it is fast. Yes, it is a tall truck so if you are speeding and try to make a quick turn, YES, it will tip, this is not a buggy. But all in all, Trust me when I tell you that this truck is BAD, plus, you have so many hop up parts and NOT TO MENTION***** HPI Customer Service IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! They have sent me so many free parts, and they are so helpful I can tell you how much that is worth. I have never had a Traxxas, so maybe they have good support, if so, cool. But I DO have a HPI, and I can tell you, it is a good decision. Any questions, just let me know.

I havent broken in the engine yet. I will probably do it either tomorrow or during the week. I am impressed with the instructions and the assembly of the truck.

The new body really looks nice. So, did you adjust the gear mesh? was it loose from the factory? thanks.

So, Fezzy, if your shop pushes mostly Savages, what the heck else would you and your associates be working on? :) Too funny.
Savages are great bashers, not sure what planet this guy is from.

After seeing that new Savage X body, not sure if I want to keep it or smash it with a hammer... :) . My Savage SS .25 with the 3-speed has been nothing but smiles. Reliable, strong, quick, wheelies, and handles bumps and jumps like no other. The one quirk is the difficulty to work on. Not bad for many parts, but if you want to remove the transmission, or the entire front or rear assembly, whoa man, you're gonna have a long day! Not THAT bad, but not as easy or fun as the Revo or (I am guessing) the LST.

ive owned a tmaxx 2.5r and have at least had some radio time with all the other trucks u mentioned i just got my x bout 3 weeks ago and as a monster truck to bash around with i think it the toughest one around i boke parts on almost everytime i took my tmaxx out. the only part ive broke on my x is a bent shock shaft after landing off about 15 to 20 foot drop onto cement. i would definitly recommend the x and it does do wheelies on command a wheelie bar wouldnt be a bad idea.

smoky. Which engine from your experience is easy and can hold a good tune? traxxas 2.5R or HPI F4.1?
minipirate

^ i believe that your answer would be the big block for they are known to hold a very consistant tune and not to mention the traxas motors are very finacky, dont know about the new 3.3 though, could be better

my X wheelies so easy it's actually a problem for me. half the time when I want to race my buddies, I almost flip over backwards and have to let out.
I also set my trans to shift earlier from first gear and sometimes it wheelies in second!
