A guy I work with was given this boat. The person who gave it to him told him it is worth a lot of money because it is an antique. Is this true?I will not mention what he thinks it is worth but he did have an offer of around $300 and he thought that was way to low. That is an o.s. .46 in there, I know that is not an antique. He also told him it would go 115 mph. I don't know much about rc boats but I am pretty sure that is not true. Thanks for any info on this.

Antique huh? I don't recognize it, but it looks like an older Hughey. Old riggers are not very valuable, although the motor may be worth something if it is in good shape. It is pretty safe to assume that the boat does not go 115 mph, not with that motor and the big drag brakes up front. The fastest nitro riggers in the world only go a bit over 120 mph, and they don't use stock motors to do it.

An offer of $300 is not "way low", but it may be worth a bit more - or not. Put in on eBay and see.

I saw that on ebay last week! It's an old Dumas Quickee 40 and might hit 50 or so on a good day. It's really outmoded by todays standards as that design is a good 20 years old.
Going 115 MPH is no easy feat and that boat isn't up to the task, especially with an OS and that hull.

Thanks! Ebay was were he had it. He was told it was worth $1500 so he had an $800 reserve on it. When he brought the pictures to work and told me he had a boat for sale I said I would take a look at it. I thought it was cool and asked him what he wanted for it. He told me the guy said it was worth $1500 and I had to walk away rather quickly to avoid him seeing the smile on my face. About how fast do you think somethimg like this would go? Unfortunately, he bought a hpi savage from the same guy and that guy told him the engine is a .24 but it was bored out. I know enough about nitro engines to know this is highly unlikely, therefore, I fear he has been told a bunch of false info.

Yeah, I'm sneaky like that! :D
I've been around all forms of R/C enough to recognize a snow job when I see one.
An $800.00 reserve is really steep and $1,500.00 is a joke. I've got less than that (not much less) into my Sport 40 and it had top of the line stuff in it like a MAC .45 .
If you really want to see a tall tale, look up the Aeromarine Cat in there right now with the BIN price of 9 Grand and a starting bid at $5,000.00!

I was just looking at aeromarine boats last night on ebay, did not see the cat though. I may enter into the rc boat hobby at the end of this year, since I may never be able to afford a real fountain I thought I could get a 64" bonzi, just a thought for now. I guess when I go back to work on monday I will have to be brutely honest with tom and tell him his boat is not what he thinks or has been told. Thanks! I will have to get back on here down the road to find out more info on boats and engines and stuff if I decide to get one, a person always feels like a bit of a boob when doing that though. If only the hobbytown in my area employed people who really cared about stuff besides the things they like. Thanks Again!

Went through that at a LHS that went OOB last July. Most of the employees knew trains, telescopes and board games. I ordered an Octura prop in there one time and the employee that was there couldn't find it in the back room. He was looking for an airplane prop!

300$ Tops! :p
Anything more and there better be a jet turbine engine under the hood! :D

Best thing about that boat is the old K&B pipe...
