First, I want to give a thumbs up to the Miss Bud boat. I have been reading a lot of negative about this boat but coming from a guy who had never drove any nitro rc boat or car before I have to tell, my experience has been nothing but positive. Sure it is a little tricky and takes on a good bit of water before making upgrades, but I have had mine totally submerged 3-4 times and all I had to do is take it to the beach dry everything (receiver, servos) and she fired right back up.
Now, I was reading about different ways to improve the flaws of the Hydros. Most people stated that they installed an autobaler and one person said they used packing peanuts and foam pipe insulation inside the hull and sponsons to increase the buoyancy if and when water is taken on.
Has anyone tried spray foam? Just wondering if I risk the chance of making the boat to buoyant and with the Miss Bud 1/12 maybe having the prop not make enough contact with the water? I was thinking if I spray it along the sides of the boat I should be ok?

Only is you want to have the foam separate the deck from the hull would I recommend a spray in or 2-part foam. The stuff will absorb water and fuel adding weight to the boat. Once the boat is exposed to heat like sunlight for a while, the foam will expand even more.
Nothing is ever that easy! Ron's right, not exactly the 'best' thing to do without a lot of testing and experimentation. As in trying to regulate the amount of spray foam you put in the boat. And then theres the really 'fun' part, providing enough air circulation so that the stuff will 'cure' completely (and heat). You want to get the right 'kind' of foam too. Closed cell, not open cell foam.
Tried making a boat stand with spray foam and a trash bag. Spray foam in bag, form bag to boat kind of thingy. Had all the 'fun' I could stand, ain't going there no more! The foam stayed a gooy mess.
Good luck...

OK, if you don't use spray foam, what would you use? What about foam from like a swimming pool toy noodle or that type. Problem we have run into is that if the boat stalls on the water, in less than 5 mins she is pointed to the sky.

Unless your buddy strips down to his boxers and puts on knee high rubber boots and goes in after it! All in front of a busy public road while people are watching from a nearby house!

As my dad would tell me, it's best to leave well enough alone, and if it ain't broke don't fix it . I know that experimenting is fun but tape works well on hydros also. Good luck and have fun .
