Hi people I am fairly new to the world of RC but having recently seen a GTB 6.5 powered DF-02 I decided that brushless is definately for me. Unfortunately the mortgage has other ideas.
I have a DF-02 and want to put a feigao 380c-8t or 9t in it. I am not interested in putting anything other than a standard stick pack in the car so I would not be interested in running higher voltage.
I saw the genesis pro but after the conversion to Aussie $ and postage, things are looking a tad expensive. The genesis sport would probably closer to my price range if I didn't have to pay GBP but unfortunately Starluckrc don't stock them. Is the software the same for both controllers? And the only difference the amp draw? I saw a brushless (presumably plane) controller on e-bay with a 60 amp continuous and 80 amp peak for $61 Aus and was suprised to see that those amp draws are higher than the genesis sport controller. The Mtroniks site has the genesis sport and a 4400 kv motor combo which is why I thought a 380c-9t would suit the sport fine.
I am not interested in racing, just bashing. I want to stick with 7.2 v stick packs because nothing else will fit. I don't need the fastest, just fast enough.
Should I just suck it up and get the pro although I don't need all it can offer.
There are far too many considerations and I don't know what to think.
I have also been thinking of getting a used 5800 of ebay, occasionally I see one for around the AUD $200 mark and I figure, throw a new rotor and bell end on etc, etc.
MMmmmm

My Hacker C40-8s worked pretty good in a Gravel Hound. The 380C-8t should be similar.
From what I read the Mtroniks controllers are pretty good.
I haven't heard anything good about plane controllers in cars. This might be a bad investment...

I second that my mtroniks sport that i have works well with my hacker c40 8s so i would think it would work perfectly well with a 380c tdk recomended.

TDK is also right dont waste your money and time with airplan controllers.

HobbyPeople also stock the Mtroniks Sport controller, for around $130. This with a 380C-8T or 9T would fly. I have a Mtroniks Pro and 380-8T in my TL-01B buggy right now and its a real blast to drive (even on the 2400 stick packs I have to use..damn stupid chassis design). If you can spare the dosh get the Mtroniks Pro, its a very solid, versitile unit, backed by what I think is the best customer support in the industry.

The airplane controller I reckon would actually work with a 380C-9T, but, it would have severe driveability issues - no real brakes, not a smooth start, heat buildup could damage it a lot easier, its designed for plane type radio (0-100 throttle range instead of 50/50 i think), and its not waterproof.

Sports are on the way along with the new Bike (Ride) controller.

b3,
i finally put 3s lipo 5200mah in my tl01b.
it has been a hard work to enlarge that battery tray.
then i upgraded my sport plus to pro version and ran it with plasma 4400 9t.
many nitro guys at offroad track didn't believe it was a cheap electric car.
i was absolutely the fastest for 15/20 minutes, then the motor bearings cracked...
sent to mtroniks for reparation/replacement and just ordered from jamie a new 380c 9t.

the same setup fitted in a tt01 is very funny, it could be even better solving traction problem. However i prefer to run the tt01 with 7 cells gp3300 and 380c 7t, heavier but more stable setup.

fenris,
sport plus combo (ss esc + plasma 4400) on six cells is a really good setup to start with, but i believe that very soon you'll want to try more speed and power, at least 7 cells or 2s lipo.
my opinion: sport plus is great, pro is better.
and don't forget the excellent mtroniks customer service.

Thanks for all the pointers. As far as LiPo cells go I have absolutely no idea about them at all. Cost, size, abilities???
It costs $40 AUD for a Venom racing 3000 NiMh at the local LHS which suits me fine.
I am more interested in having a less powerfull setup with better runtimes and no maintenance than getting 5 min of blistering acceleration. I hated the thought that the performance of my brushed motor was less than optimal but I would never considering buying a comm laithe.
I am considering the wear on my buggy as well.
The Mtroniks site says the sport and plasma 4400 will make about 65 Kmh or 40 mph and I don't think I need anything faster. I was relatively pleased with my 23T Superstock RZ when it was brand new.
The pro would be nice but I don't think I want to put anything hotter than an 8 or 9 turn brushless in anyway.
I will have to have a look at LiPo prices and charger prices and see what its all about.
I also noticed no one has said I should think about a second hand SS5800 yet.
Cheers
