can a schulze 12.97fe controller with Nemisis 12s handle a (2x) 2S - 7.4volt setup (14.8volts)? i know that 12cells is supposed to be the limit i think on the 12.97fe controller.
thanx,
justin

I own about 5 schultze controllers and my experience has been that they are conservative on their #'s. I think that your bigger problem is going to be if it can handle the amps. It looks like the kv of your motor is 2958 which seems a little hot for a 4s system. I think that you are going to have to keep a close watch on it to make sure it is not pulling too many amps not only for the controller but also for the batteries. Describe the car you are going to put this setup in.

Well if we know joostin it will be in his stampede truggy or some other custom truck. ;)
I wouldn't worry about it. 4S lipo is the same as 12 cells voltage wise. Just gear it alittle conservativly at the beginning and monitor it.

:p it is going in my rustler 1/8 buggy thing:
http://home.comcast.net/~joostin420/wsb/media/355614/site1396.JPG
right now i am at 7 pounds boarderline (added FLM aluminum trans case, and MIP CVD's), and with 2x 2s lipo packs i am hoping to get it back down to 6.5 pounds which is where i was at before the added extras.
next question is do i need some sort of voltage regulator to make sure the batteries dont go below a ceartain level while running the car?
also, is the DuraTrax IntelliPeak ICE DC Competition Charger a good charger for charging Lipos, or MRC Super Brain 989 8-Cell Lithium Polymer Charger, or is there another that is better? i dont want to spend more than $150.
thanx,
justin

The 12.97fe is a 97amp controller right? I have been running this motor on a Uforce 75 and Genesis Pro with no problems on 4s lipo in a t4 and tc3 for months now.

the bec is what limits that controller to 12 cells. if you disable the bec then its rated for 18 cells just like there 18.97. I have the 12.97 with an ubec in my emaxx and ran it on 14 cells all the time.

These are both 1/10 scale if I am not mistaken. Running that motor in a 1/10 scale car is going to pull differen't amps than in a 7lb 1/8 buggy, that is why I wanted to know what he was running it in.
I think you will be able to run it, I just don't think you are going to be able to run it very long without overheating it. Not to mention the motor is going to overheat if you run it for any duration.
Here is what I base my statement on:
I currently am running 2 different 1/8 buggies and I have tried my 18.97 controller in the cars with a very efficient 2100kv XL size motor and it would thermal after about 5 minutes on 4s lipo's. I also have tried a uforce 75 of which I run in all my 1/10 scales with no problems, but it would not work either(only about 3-4 minutes with a fan). As a matter of fact I have not found any controller (other than the 18.149 with a heat sink and a fan) that can make it more than 10 minutes without overheating. I have been working with Mike @ RC-Monster to try to come up with a setup that will run 20 minutes, but after testing Schultze, BK, MGM controllers, Neu,Feigao,BK motors, the only combo that has lasted longer than 10 minutes is the 18.149 controller with a Neu 1515 1Y motor.
I don't want to get down on everyone that is telling him it will be ok, but I am just trying to answer him the best I can from the testing I have already done.

Yes, but his buggy is only 2WD, not 4WD like yours, so the amp draw should be lower.

yes, it is 2wd and should be a lot easier on the controller and motor.
i run an 8L motor now with the 12.97 controller in my TXT-1 on 12cells, i does get hot without a fan over the motor/controller. with a fan it stays nice and cool though. i am sure the 8L pulls much more amps than the 12s.

I am very interested in your brushless TXT-1 setup. Could you let me know whether you use the stock or E-Maxx tranny? gear ratio? Thanks.

well, it is dismantled at the moment. i did use the stock transmission in my original carbon Fiber TXT-1 chassis design. right now i am gathering things together and designing a new chassis for it, with an e-maxx 2speed.
in the stock transmission i used a 14t or 15t pinion i think, i will have to check tonight.

Yes, 2wd will make a difference, but once again I think it just depends on how much time you are trying to get out of it. When you say you are using lipo's it tells me that you want to get some long run times. 2wd may help a bit, I can't really comment on that because I haven't tried it. Let us know how long you can get without overtemping. It is important that we all share our knowledge so when someone comes up with a winning combo, everyone can benefit.

There shouldn't be any problem. A car controller that can handle 50-60amps continuous should suffice, and 97amps (rated) is more than enough.

Would the mtronics truck work in a 2wd 1/8 truck?
8L
4s lipo
I've been using the 9920, but got it wet one too many times.
I need a new controller, the 9920 works well, but im worried about getting it wet again.
I like the water proff truck controller, but am worried that it might not be able to handle the 8l on 4s. Maybe it would work with a 9L or 10L?

It should work. Mtroniks packages the Truck and an 8L for use with the 4wd E-Maxx, so it should be fine in your 2wd truck.
