been driving off road rc for some time(have 4 vehicles to be exact).
decided to build a 36" long hydro plane with a traxxas 2.5 engine.
with dumas hardware kit and a prather prop 1.72x2.6. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXDR97
the problem i am having is every time place boat in water motor stalls.
rev motor and place in water and still stalls.
am i using wrong prop?
any ideas for a newbie or should i stick to land vehicles.

For a Prather 220 prop, 1.72 is diameter in inches and the 2.6 is pitch in inches. For a 36" hull with a 2.5cc engine (.15 cubic inch) I think the Prather 220 prop has both too much diameter an too much pitch. For the Traxxas engine, I would try an Octura 1440 or 1442 if the hull is a three point hydro or a rigger. I'd try an X440 or X442 if the hull is a cat. Also I would start the main needle at about 4.5 full turns out from stop to make sure you have the mixture rich enough. If the engine pushes the boat but is hard to plane...then lean it an eighth of turn at a time. Not sure what kind of hull you have , but a 36" hull is a lot of boat for that Traxxas engine. 36" hulls usually use a 7.5 to 11cc (.45 to .67 cubic inch) engines. Good luck. RC

My question is "Is that a Dumas hydro kit?" If so, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of that engine pushing that boat. Problem number two is using Dumas hardware. If you got the bushed strut and stuffing box, the drag alone will be too much for the .15. How are you launching your boat? Are you just putting it in the water or giving it a throw launch?
