I just installed the up graded rotor/endbell in my ss5800 i installed it in my mf2 from the 1st pull of the trigger...it just about flipped on its lid!! no kidding!! way more low end i couldnt believe it! as soon as i got the holy s*** out of the i wanted to see about top end so i ran it on my street a little bit, i do admit that top end DOES suffer a little, but the bottom end makes up for it. tell ya nothing cooler than watching a 10th scale truck wheelie from a dead stop on a down hill grade!! just thought id let everyone know

That's interesting to know, thanks for the info sherm.

I have an idea. For my bike I actualy want to lose torque. I wonder if I put the ss5800 rotor and endbell in it, it will have much softer pick up but not lose too much top end.

Sherminator - sounds fun! Let us know if you adjust the gearing to gain some speed back. It would be really sweet if you could re-gear to regain your top speed but STILL have more low end torque than before.

Jev - what motor is in there currently?

the 5.5

the 5.5
Putting the 5800 rotor into a 5.5 will probably increase your RPMs dramatically, but you're going to lose quite a bit of acceleration I would imagine. Although I guess that's kinda what you want in a light little bike though....:D

Well the bike weighs around 1700g so not that light but with the 5.5 and lipo's it can be a right wheelieing monster. I think I'm either going to get the novak 6.5 or maybe the nosrm/reedy/lrp 3 star motor for small tracks. Anyone know what wind the 3 star is? I will probably try my ss5800 rotor and end bell in the 5.5 next time I'm at a small track in 2 weeks time.

i would be careful putting a 5800 rotor in a 5.5 as the rotor is not designed to spin that high an rpm and thus could come apart.

I'm fairly certain the 3 star motor is a 7.5 wind.

Have you tried adjusting the gearing to get rid of a bit of the acceleration? Would be safer than trying a weaker rotor like chilledoutuk says.

A 3 star is probably a 6.5. The 7.5 is probably the 2 star.

Yes that is what I am doing, but it puts more strain on the esc, motor and lipos.

Has anyone ever actualy over reved a novak motor and destroyed it? I just can't imagine the rotor just falling apart. I would still be geared higher than a car normaly would so I don't think it would be anything to worry about anyway.

I'm going to order a nosram 3 star anyway.

Ran the 5800 motor on 12 GP3300s unloaded for a few seconds here and there, then in my Rusty for a few speed runs. Didn't blow up, but did get nice and toasty in the Rusty. :D

!!!! i think we can safely say it would survive in the 5.5 then.

The neo 3 star is not a 7.5 turns but a 6.5.
1star=8.5
2star=7.5
3star=6.5
4star=5.5

cheers for clearing that up guys. It's more reasuring to here it from more than one person. I wonder how the novak 6.5 and 3-Star compare :).

I geared my "up graded" 5800 up about 2 teeth on my MF2, i won both my off road heats and took 2nd in my main would have been 1st but got tangled up and ended up breaking when i tried to lap traffic ....again! a buddy had a T4 and a 13t mod in it and i could pull away from him the entire way...dunno what motor he had though but it was a 13. I just love the fact that i dont have to skim the comm and do all that "maintaince" to my motor, i can deffinetly concentrate on my handling now. I'm Deffinetly tipping my hat to Billmck, thanks for all your words of wisdom in your prev. posts!! thanks again!
