I am curious on the runtimes that everyone is getting on their brushless 1/8th scale buggies? Please also post your setup.
I have match GP3300's and IB3800's. I am averaging anywhere from 8 - 12 minutes. Most time closer to 8 because I use full throttle most of the time. I am running 12 cells with a Feigao 10L motor and a 9918 Warrior ESC.
Here is a link to pics of my buggy:

Yes I am also curios to see what runtimes people are getting. I want to run NIMH but I might have to run LiPo.

I ordered some LiPo's for my speed car. Could also try them in the buggy later as well.
On my Mini-T - Today I tried a 2 cel LiPo for the first time with the Mamba 8000. Used them instead of my 6 cells GP1100 pack. Went from 12 - 15 minutes to a 25 minute runtime. Would love to do that with the buggy and EMaxx.

Yea, I am looking at the Team Orion Platinum Lipos. 4800mah, 7.4V, and 15C. Two for 250$ at Tower with promotion...:)

Wow, I would think you would get some more runtime than that...

Hey studysession, off topic but.... how do you like those solderless power tubes? I was thinking about getting a tube or two; they look pretty versatile and just good all around. Plus no bars to add resistance, or crappy nickel strips that a normal stick pack has.

Hey - Love them. It is easy to remove existing batteries for new ones in the cells. I have some with GP3300's and others with 3800's.

Awesome. Have you ever compared them to a SxS pack of the same cells? I'm curious as to whether having the cells touching one another (with that silver paste stuff) instead of bars or strips really helps performance. [/hands thread back over]... :o

MBX R2 Ultra
Feigao 9L 540C
Mtroniks Genesis Truck ESC
12 cells - MaxAmps 4k Top Qualifier (4000mah)
17 minutes runtime - that's race driving (ie lots of accelerating to near top speed, slowing down for corners, then WOT again).
With GP3300's, I get about 14 minutes.
My batteries get the hottest of all my components...

xhumeka that is the exact setup that I am planning on running! How do you like it? How does the performance compare to a 1/8th nitro? Thanks!

man I really REALLY wnat to get a 1/8th electric buggy now!! It would be cool to take it to my local nitro track and race in 1/8th nitro and blow them away with an electric.... *stares off into space and thinks about whooping all the nitro guys with an electric that they think is a nitro* if you put lipo into that thing holly ***** would it be fast!! and light too!!! now I really want one!! and I don't have any money to get one!! why did ya'll have to do that to me!! lol

I love it!!!!!
Performance wise, torque and acceleration can't be touched - the gearing I'm at right now (52 tooth spur, 13 tooth pinion) gets me about 40-45mph top end - so there are certainly nitro's that can wind out faster than that... but again, none could beat my acceleration ;) The added weight of the batteries also gives more bite for traction!

How often do you eat up spur gears? I am interested but not sure what car I wish to try and convert. I am concerned the spurs will not hold up. I know there are some mod1 steel pinions that can be used.

I swapped my metal spur gear out for this nylon one:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000548344&I=LXBM16&P=K
After about 10 runs, the spur still looks brand new! You have to dremel/file the slot in the chassis where the spur sinks into to allow for the wider sized nylon spur, but that's easy enough to do.
I forgot that my mbx r2 came with a steel spur, and the first run chewed up my 12 tooth pinion :( After swapping to the nylon spur and throwing in a replacement 13 tooth pinion, it's been SMOOTH SAILING ever since :)

Kyosho K2
Plette Max motor
Hacker Master Comp controller
TP 4S4P 8000 LiPo
46 spur, 11 pinion
10-12 minutes before thermaling. She is a banshie for those 12 minutes though...waiting for CC to come out with their controller. Goal is to run straight 25 minutes. :D
BTW, these batts will run 25 minutes straight in a TC3 with Hacker C40 7, and Comp controller.

Wow very good time running !
I'm waiting for 2x6 GP4300 for my XB8R project, and I'm waiting a Feigao 540C 9L with BK 9920 whit 12 pinion and 44 spur, so when I see your running time I think to run about 20 min ! Cool

I don't think you'll quite get 20 mins with 12 GP 4300's, but it could be 12-15 minutes depending on how constant you are pegging the throttle. I get 10-12 mins with IB3800's and Feigao 9L with an OFNA 1/8 scale.

My set-up in a 1/8 buggy.
Old set-up I used a Hacker Master compettion and Feigao 9L with 12 cells 3300's got around 10 to 12 minutes on full throttle just like racing, no thermals I put a fan on my Esc.
My new set-up I use a BK 12020 Esc and Lehner 1950 6 turn running matched 14 cells 3300's get about the same time. My Esc and motor does not even break a sweat. The Esc and motor is warm.. I do not use a fan on my Esc.
This set-up is super fast in my ride.

Question : Is it possible to use 6 cells only with a bk 9920 and Feigao 9L ?
Thanks

Nope. You might get a maximum of about 20mph if you geared high, but you'd be lacking torque. The lowest cell count I've ever seen anyone use was 9 cells with an 8L, but I don't remember how that went for the guy that did it. For the most part, 12 cells is a minimum.

I ran 6 cells using a Chili Pepper 5200kv short can motor. It got very hot. I couldn't touch the motor without burning my finger. lasted for around 8 minutes. The 9918 ESC did not thermal at all but it was quite warm to touch.
