Not new to the hobby but new to brushless (and lipo) and I'm working on a shopping list for parts to build out a T2 with, primarily for road course racing on asphalt with occasional trips to a nearby carpet track. Could really use some wisdom from those of you who have been into brushless for a while if you don't mind!

I'm trying not to spend a ton of money and I've used Novak hardware for years, so their systems have initially caught my eye. Even so however, I have a hard time guessing whether I'd really want a GTB and a 5.5 or a GTB and a 4.5, etc.

The road course I'd be racing on most of the time looks like this:

Plenty of twist and turns, but then there's that loooooong back straightaway on which to get passed (by anyone who has more top end). My gut reaction is to say get a 4.5, why not, more power right? But then I also start worrying about destroying lipos with too much draw. Anyone have some thoughts?

I say, if your going with novak, go with the 6.5 or the 5.5. The 4.5 will probably be way to much speed/torque for racing. Yeah more speed is better but in those turns it sometimes can get hard to control.

As for the LiPo, I say go with a 8000 mah lipo from maxamps. It can handle 96A continuous.

I myself drive a evader ST with the 5.5 and the 8000mah lipo from maxamps and I must say HOLY CRAP! It is insanely fast (>45 MPH). I also have M2K's that I put on it every noW and then and it does wheelies down the street.

That's sort of what I was thinking, I've been leaning towards the 5.5 from the beginning of all my online research, but feedback like this helps a lot. I just don't want to get passed every time the straight opens up, but dude if you're pushing a truck to 45mph, I can't imagine me being dissapointed in a TC!

A quick check of their site just now reveals to me that for anyone ponying up the considerable cash, they even offer a 12000mah pack which is just bonkers! I need to go back and look at how much that thing weighs and how I'd mount it, hehe.

Pardon my ignorance to the current products out there, but what is an M2K? Is that another motor?

M2k stands for "Masher 2000," a tire made by proline. It's pretty big, tall, and sticky, and popular with 1/10th truck bashers.

I saw that too. The 8000mah was too big for my battery tray so now I use velcro straps to hold it down. As for a 12000mah it is even bigger so I don't know how you would put it in you car (with the GTB and everything it's going to get a little crowded).

12000 mah is not bigger on the maxamp site. The 8000mah is a 3s2p pack, and the 12000 mah is a 2s3p pack. 3x2 = 6 = 2x3 . if the 8000mah was a 2s2p pack then it would be smaller then the 12000mah.

Actually it is 2s2p. This is what maxamps says for my battery "MaxAmps Lipoly 8000mah 2S2P 7.4V Pack". They're using two of their 4000 mah lipos.

I have been running BL in a TC for awhile now. I am running a Lehner Basic 5300 with the MGM (120 amp) controller. This setup is FANTASTIC in a TC and will run forever on a 7.4v 3200mah LiPo. No problem making an 8 minute main. When you really want to have some fun, run a 9 cell GP2200 (same size as the 3200man LiPo) pack instead of the LiPo to get the voltage up. That will push the car near 50 mph if not more. Even when I am running the LiPo, the car is as fast as anything I have come across.
Hope that helps,
Matt
