ok i was gonna attempt to try true fire on this bolink SSR body but my airbrush went "dead" .it wont push any pressure past 20 psi's??????u cant spray the a/b but no paint comes out but only air,if i fool around with the nozzle i can get the paint to soemtimes coem out n if it coems out it blobs up?????it gets worse ,today the compressor vibrated off the table n landed on the floor n it still has the same systems.anywya i checked for leaks n i didt see any.if u unscrew the bottom of the water separator, the pressure drops to 0.i cant gett eh compressor to push past 20 psi's????any ideas???i even switched to another a/b.its those cheap ones u cna get out of harbor freight for like 10 bucks???the compressor is a central pheumatic from harbor freight.my brother in law thinks it has internal probs (b4 it fell).

i have a pankcake compressor that i can use i guess?????what do i need to set it up for airbrushing, please let me know.i would appriciate it

thanx

you got a desent start going there, but i notice the faskolor is yellowing the body up something nasty, id recomend just hitting it with the yellow licks and try to not use the transparents.

and im sure it would go a bit easyer if your equipment worked properly

what kind of compressor do you have? oh, and another little tip, try to work slowly enough to let the paint dry so when you overlap you dont get those pesky little scratches in there

yup!i probally just paint the rest by brush with faskolor yellow to try to slavage it n then i will throw stickers on it, as soon as i get some for free, lol

the main thing is you tried! that and use the fantastic trick to get the faskolor to spray right, 50/50 water and fantastic or you could you windex in the same ratio then use that mixture to reduce the paint to wear you like it

Just wash it all out and start over when your equipment is working again.

I'd say that the brush is dirty or clogged, that's why you are getting the splattering like you said. As far as the pancake compressor goes yes it will work fine, all you need to do if figure out how to get your hose attached to it. You might need an adaptor or two, but you also might not :)

As far as the compressor from Harbour Freight, take it back and exchange it for a new one. Just tell them you bought it a few weeks ago and lost the reciept :D It's a little dodgy, but they sell junk so it evens out :) My compressor is from there too though :P

stalker-the second gun i used was brand new ,i got the compressor for free n i dont have the box n the time i pay for shipping i can apply that towards a new compressor but good idea though, thanks!i got plenty of air coming out of the gun but it reads only 20 psi,n i thinned the faskolor with windex, still nothing, tommorrow i will try to post a close up pic.i did have to rig it up with soem fittings from lowe's but it worked, i sprayed the general bug with it no prob,it stared acting up when i went to do the second body!(at the time)

Well if it clogged on the second body then for sure it got some build up in it and that's the problem.. FasKolor Yellow you said? I was using that today as well and it messed up on me... personally I HATE most FasKolor paints lately... I know that I will not be buying any more of it... infact since I can get AutoAir local I'm going to get some Transparent Yellow next... then I guess I'll have all the fire ingredients... :D

I guess shipping the compressor isn't an option - I was thinking if you had a local store... that's what I did and mine was 4 years old and second hand! HA Actually not even a central pneumatic one either! LOL ya bad I know... but I spend money in there when people will help me... call it balancing out the scales for all the times I've driven to the store only to wait 30 minutes for someone to help me then for them to walk off never to return... grrrrr

i have found that AUTO-AIR makes a Reducer .....it thins the paint and helps with dry time.........it dries almost as fast as pactra.....

if your auto body paint store has Auto-air pick up the reducer and use it in faskolor paints helps alot

ive heard that auto air makes the fastkolor paint

since i have asthma, i try no to use pactra paints, faskolor r non toxic.i do wear a resporator still but i cant stand the smell pactra paints leaves behind.i think faskolor also makes createx paints.

what psi's should it spray at,my friend says no more than 8 psi's n he a/b's alot?

Stalker911

Ya it's all made by Createx. Createx has 3 lines. Auto-Air, Airbrush and something for nails. I like the newly reformulated Airbrush stuff and the Auto-Air from what I've tried so far.

I haven't heard anything about FasKolor getting reformulated but it sure needs it.. oh well Createx stuff is cheaper anyhow!

ha you posted while I was replying!

I generally spray at as low of a pressure as possible but it varries from paint to paint.. for example with FasBlack straight from the bottle I was @ 15-20psi with no problems but Yellow had to be bumped to 30psi to get it to even come out (again FasYellow SUCKS) but in general with FasKolor and the older Createx 25-30psi usually is a good starting point. With the new stuff as low as 15psi straight from the bottle works well for me. 8psi seems really low, but if the paint is thinned then I guess it can work.

Just because someone has painted alot or even for years, doesn't mean they know what their doing. Or maybe you didn't hear him correctly, but no more the 8 psi is crazy unless your spraying food coloring on a cake!

As Stalker stated, the PSI used depends. It depends on the application, your airbrush and the paint. If your trying to cover the entire body, you'll be a long time spraying at 8 psi. Crank that bad boy up to 40 psi and "Get-R-Done"! If your using a bottom feed brush, you won't even get paint to flow at 8 psi. It probably won't start flowing until 30 psi! If your laying down some shadows or detail, you'll want to spray as low as you can get, but that will vary depending on the paint being sprayed. If I can't get it to spray at the PSI I want, I'll reduce it until it does.

There is no one answer because there are so many variables.

true- i find it hard to beleive to at 8 psi's but hey depends right.my friend does some pretty cools tuff!

Well if he is using a gravity feed gun and very thin paint them it is possible but he's probably not getting the best results that he could out of his setup...

MaxxThrasher
04-12-2006, 11:42 AM
Exactly, it's possible. I've sprayed as low as 5 psi, but thats as you mentioned, with a gravity feed brush and very over reduced paint, doing fine detail work.
But who's gonna paint the entire body at "no more then 8 psi" ?

Anyhow Fes, give that brush a very good cleaning and get it working again. You've got some dried paint in there giving you grief.

I think I've said this to you before, buy a quality airbrush if you know you will be airbrushing as a hobby. I think you keep getting cheap ones and it just causes fustration for you. You can get a good quailty airbrush for $60 and it will be good to you. I think you've mentioned before that yoy have a cheap airbrush and that could be your problem for it always breaking. Trust me, if you have the right and good tools for the job, it can take away a lot of the fustration.

You have good ideas and the desire to learn, I think a better airbrush will let you have more fun without fustration and you will probably get better.
