View Full Version : I need more speed!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have the Novak gtb 5.5, ss5800 and the feiago 8s. I only run 6 and 7 cells. I need more speed. My neighbor just got a Jato and it is smoking me for the most part. I really need some advice on what system or motor I can get to be faster than what I have. I don't really have the funds to go lipo at this point. I have enough to get a new motor and that's about it. I don't want to go more than 7 cells due to weight. I jump some pretty big jumps and I dont want anymore weight than I have to have.
Am I just out of luck here or is there a faster motor?

The Feigao 380c-6t is probably the fastest low-voltage motor available, but it might have trouble pushing big tires like M2K's. Stadium truck tires might be a better choice for that motor.
I still think you need to get a 540-12s or a 380c-13t and 12 cells to beat a Jato, though. If you want to see how it jumps with 12 cells, you should strap 2 6-cell packs on but only use one of them to power your 5.5 or 8s. Maybe the extra weight won't be as bad as you think.

We gps tested his Jato at 50mph this past week and it wasn't fully tuned. What about 8 cells. I can probably rig that up.

You may be able to get 50mph on 8 cells with 84/18 gearing and untaped M2K tires. On smaller stadium truck tires, you'd need to gear up to maybe 84/22.
Have you gps tested the 8s before? If you know the speed on 6 or 7 cells, it will be easier to estimate the speed on 8 cells.

Keep in mind that the motor can only put out as much power as the batteries supply to it. That means that the fewer the cells you use, the less of a chance you have of getting to a higher speed.
Feigao 540 12s on 12 cells will hit 50mph for sure, and will go higher. The only problem is, it's TOO much power. You wouldn't really even be able to keep the front end down. So, while the Jato may get to 50mph with few or no wheelies, you'll be wheelie-ing past 30mph!

I have a Hacker C40-5S motor and it is pleanty fast enough. The C40's handle up to 10 cells. It gets way to fast. I have a C40-6S in my Traxxas Bandit and a little over half throttle on 6 cells I can hit 50MPh. Anytime I go over 50 I wreck so not gotten any faster yet. Grant it the bandit was never designed to go that fast either. :)

C40 5 turn? That's insane.

It is. :) Was a special order. You do not see anything less than a 6-turn listed on the site.

50mph at only half throttle and on 6 cells?!?
Not to doubt you, but how is that even possible? Were you very overgeared? With a 1" rollout you need 53k RPM under load to get to 50mph. That's about 7400kv under load (on 6 cells assuming no voltage drop) and it would be at half throttle only?

I have a radar gun is how I measure my speed. But over all - yes that day it was over geared.

Did they tell you or give you an estimate as to what the loaded Kv and amp draw is on something like 6 cells?

I have to do some digging to see if I have those emails anymore. It was a long time ago.
The biggest difference with the lower turn motors is the higher RPM's with less number of Ceil's. You have a higher AMP draw and less run times. Not as efficient than with a higher turn motor.
For me it is all about top end speed. I do not care for the long run times or efficiency, when I try to make speed car projects.

Yeah, I can only imagine the amperage it will pull. Which speed project did you use it in? I remember you had a few fast cars (bandit, colt, MRS4, and I think something else?)

Was using it in a TC3 and then used it in the Colt and now want to try it in my MRS4 with 2 cell LiPo. But need a good controller that can handle the AMP draw with a small foot print.

Oh man, that MRS4 will be a rocket.

:) I want to get one of the new chassis designed specificly for LiPo packs for my MRS4 and put the Hacker c40-5s in it with 2 serial LiPo.
I am thinking of using the Genesis Pro ESC. Have not decided yet. But for the size of it - it will fit fine. The BK Warrior ESC I have is WAY to big physically or I would us it. I do not have the Genesis Pro yet, but do want to get me one.

I think the Pro is the same size as the Truck minus its massive heatsink. The warrior controllers are LONG from pics I've seen. Good luck with that! What kinda lipos do you plan on using?

Still searching for smaller LiPo's that have a 20c rating. Need a very small foot print though. I love speed though. It's addicting.
As for the ESC - yeah the Pro is same as Truck but no massive heat sink. It should be fine for the job. I have spent to much on my RC stuff recently so have to wait a bit before getting it.

Here are the LiPo's Dan recommends for the MRS4 when you use 540 sized brushed motors.
