Anyone got a idea on a good prop for this application? Motor size is a .45 (7.5) OPS. Looking for speed and control. .187 flex outdrive.
Thanks

I would try Octura X455 to an X457. Or in the 'lifting series' a 1455 to 1457. These props have a dia/pitch (in inches) of 2.17/3.038 and 2.24/3.136 respectively. Other brands in the same dia/pitch range would work too. RC

Can anyone tell me as to what to get as far as a running gear for the back half of this quickie 40. I have the original running gear and it sucks. Kit # etc.
Thanks

there's a variety of options. octura, speedmaster, or marine specialties. some of the FE vendors also make hardware that would be a good fit, such as fuller's or fine design.

BoatDoc has listed some good suppliers of hardware. To that list I would add Aeromarine. Aeromarine has a pretty good on-line catalog that you can use to 'see' items and do a price list. I think Speedmaster stuff can be viewed thru their distributor "Rossi Sales". I have built a Quickie 40 and agree the Dumas hardware is functional, but not to the standard of todays aluminum and stainless pieces. If the hdwe kit you have has the universal joints and a straight shaft, put it on e-bay for a 'vintage' collector. If it is a 'flex' shaft kit, then you can use some of the pieces. The two major items I would buy from someone else would be the motor mount and rudder assembly. I think a 'flex' mount (rubber isolated) is a must if you want your boat to stay to together for many seasons without using a ton of epoxy or fixing cracks. Both Aeromarine and Octura have great flex motor mounts. I like Octura's because their 'swift switch' design can allow quick changes of motors (even different brands) without removing the entire mount from the hull. You will have to make sure of the mount width for the Quickie. It may be 4 inch...check the plans. RC

I cheat. I give Gary Preusse of G&M Models in the Chicago 'burbs a call at 630-279-2451, tell him what I have, what I need and he sends me the right parts. He's not online but even if you have to pay for the long-distance phone call, it's always worth the money.
If you ever plan on racing , you'll already have a lot of parts that you can later put onto a racing hull. The Quickee 40 is about 20-30 years outmoded in the world of 'riggers when the experienced (and rich) have to own the hot 'rigger of the year.
You don't have any info in you Bio so it's hard for me to locate others in your area.

I can tell you from experience that an OPS.45 is too much motor for the Quickie 40! I have one at present with a K&B 7.5 and it will roll it right over! motor is stock with pipe and 30% nitro fuel. Octura 1457 prop...it will cartwheel on ya! in the straightaway or in a turn........The Quickie was designed for a 3.5 -.40 Sport engine, not ABC(it is right on the box) and it was run with the old K&B 6.5 which is still too much power! that hull will handle better with a good 3.5 engine or convert to 3.5 outboard as shown in plan............the hull is not rigid enough for a hot .45......
